The shocking triple-murder trial of Lindsay Clancy, which ignited a media circus both in and outside of its Massachusetts courtroom, has been declared a mistrial. The jury remained hopelessly deadlocked as to whether the 36-year-old was guilty of first-degree murder, more than three years after she admitted to strangling her three young children. She previously pleaded not guilty to three counts of first-degree murder, and Clancy’s legal team argued that the former labor and delivery nurse could not be held criminally responsible for the killings because she suffered from severe undiagnosed postpartum psychosis at the time. Following a third day of deadlock, in which jurors said they were unable to reach consensus on a verdict, the trial ended without resolution. “I’m going to declare a mistrial at this point,” Judge Kevin Sullivan told the court on Friday morning, as reported by NBC News. Like the high-profile Karen Read case before it, which also took place in a Massachusetts courtroom and initially ended in a mistrial, Clancy’s case could be retried in a court of law. …

Romance was in the air at the Defender Burghley Horse Trials on Friday as Peter and Harriet Phillips enjoyed a countryside date at Stamford, Lincolnshire. Synchron, another BCI company, is currently testing its devices in trials in North America and Australia. Shanghai-based Neuracle has been trialing a BCI since November 2024, and it recently obtained approval for the device to be used outside of clinical trials. Precision Neuroscience, cofounded by a former co-creator of rival Neuralink, is also trialing its BCI, which sits on the surface of the brain. At the same time, academic research has continued. The UC Davis team that worked with Harrell is part of BrainGate—a BCI research effort that has been running for the past two decades. Other academic teams are exploring a variety of devices, from the fully implanted to the minimally invasive. Since 2024, when Patrick-Krueger’s paper was published, the number of people who have been implanted with a brain electrode has more than doubled, according to Vansteensel. “My current estimation would be around 150 people,” she says. Three men and three women will qualify for Team USA during the trials, which will be the first selection event for any U.S. sport ahead of the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, according to organizers. The full course of the 26.2-mile race, which NBC will broadcast, will be released in the coming months. Members of the local organizing committee said that the race will begin at Washington University’s Francis Olympic Field, the main venue used during the 1904 Olympics, and that it will include several loops of downtown before it finishes in Energizer Park, the home of the city’s MLS team.
