‘Football won’: Gary Lineker drops brutal verdict on Arsenal FC’s Champions League final loss

Arsenal’s Premier League and Champions League campaigns had been characterised by their defensive superiority and clinical nature in taking their few chances in a game. This trend remained true in the final, where they took an early lead through Kai Havertz and held PSG goalless until the final third of the game when Ballon D’or holder, Ousmane Dembele, scored from the spot. The New Scientist Book Club’s verdict on Luminous by Silvia Park: a fascinating take on robots

The New Scientist Book Club’s verdict on Luminous by Silvia Park: a fascinating take on robots

The New Scientist Book Club read Silvia Park’s Luminous in May The New Scientist Book Club had quite a change of science-fictional pace in May, moving from the wilds of space in our April read, Kim Stanley Robinson’s Red Mars, to a much closer-to-home future in Silvia Park’s Luminous. Like another of our reads this year, Sierra Greer’s Annie Bot, this imagines a world where robots are integrated into society – and explores how we might deal with this on many different levels: emotionally, spiritually, practically, sexually. Set in a reunified Korea, it’s a compelling blend of three storylines: a police procedural, in which detective Jun is out to discover what might have become of a robot girl who has gone missing; a ragtag bunch of kids on an adventure, in which Ruijie and her schoolmates find an abandoned robot boy in a scrapyard; and a tale of a dysfunctional family. Jun and his younger sister Morgan grew up with a third sibling, a robot who disappeared when they were young, fracturing their family. They’re …

Meghan Markle reveals scones preference hours after Prince William gives his verdict

Meghan Markle reveals scones preference hours after Prince William gives his verdict

It’s one of the most divisive issues of our time, do you put cream on your scones first, or is it jam? Prince William revealed on Friday that he opts for cream first, saying he was taught by his late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. During an interview on Heart FM, the Prince of Wales was grilled over whether he made his scones in the Cornish or Devonian way, he said: “I love that I’m the authority on scones. I can only tell you what I learned from my grandmother, and she would definitely, she would have the cream on first.“ And the debate was further reignited on Saturday when Meghan Markle’s As Ever brand shared a recipe for scones. Even though the Duchess of Sussex is distant from the royals, it appears that they can agree on something, as Meghan also preferred to put her cream on first. A video showed a large dollop of cream sitting on a sliced scone as Meghan adding her signature jam on top. The caption read: “Memorial weekend plans. …

Judge Dismisses Musk’s OpenAI Lawsuit After Jury Reaches Verdict

Judge Dismisses Musk’s OpenAI Lawsuit After Jury Reaches Verdict

Update: Musk to appeal *  *  *  A nine-person federal jury has sided with OpenAI, Sam Altman, Greg Brockman, and Microsoft, determining that Elon Musk filed his high-profile lawsuit too late under the statute of limitations. The verdict effectively ends Musk’s claims that OpenAI abandoned its founding nonprofit mission to benefit humanity. The jury unanimously concluded that Musk knew or should have known about OpenAI’s shift toward a for-profit model and major Microsoft partnerships years earlier – potentially as far back as 2019–2021, making his August 2024 filing untimely. U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers in turn accepted the advisory jury’s finding on this threshold issue and dismissed the case.  Musk, a co-founder who contributed roughly $38–44 million in OpenAI’s early days, alleged that the company betrayed its original charitable trust by pursuing massive profits and commercial deals, particularly with Microsoft. He sought up to $150 billion in damages or “ill-gotten gains,” the removal of Altman and Brockman from leadership, and a restructuring to restore the nonprofit focus on safe, humanity-benefiting AI. OpenAI countered that Musk was …

Fedora Kinoite vs. Silverblue: My verdict after testing both immutable Linux distros

Fedora Kinoite vs. Silverblue: My verdict after testing both immutable Linux distros

Fedora and Silverblue Follow ZDNET: Add us as a preferred source on Google. ZDNET’s key takeaways Silverblue and Kinoite are atomic/immutable Linux distributions. Silverblue uses GNOME, while Kinoite uses KDE Plasma. Both are highly secure and reliable desktop operating systems. Immutable Linux distributions are slowly becoming more popular. Given the rise in discovered vulnerabilities, any additional security you can get is a bonus. For those who don’t know, an immutable Linux distribution is one that mounts certain directories, such as /usr, /var, and /etc, as read-only so they cannot be changed. That’s a good thing. Also: Fedora 44 made me forget I was using Linux – in the best way The developers of Fedora Linux understand this and have developed a distribution called Silverblue. From that distribution came Kinoite.  What’s the difference? As I’ve said, these are both immutable, so the underpinnings are the same. The differences lie on the desktop side. Let’s dive in and see which one of these is best suited for you. What is Fedora Kinoite? The Kinoite desktop is as elegant as it is user-friendly. …

BBC’s Jeremy Bowen Delivers Damning Verdict On Trump’s Decision To Bomb Iran

BBC’s Jeremy Bowen Delivers Damning Verdict On Trump’s Decision To Bomb Iran

President Donald Trump arrives for an event with small business leaders, Monday, May 4, 2026, in the East Room at the White House in Washington. (AP Photo/Mark Schiefelbein) via Associated Press Donald Trump is now paying the price of going to war with Iran “without thinking through the consequences”, a senior BBC journalist has declared. Jeremy Bowen, the corporation’s international affairs editor, also warned that the US president’s attempts to re-open the Strait of Hormuz could see a return to all-out war. His comments came as Iran’s foreign minister warned that America could be “dragged back into quagmire”. Trump launched “Project Freedom” at the weekend, vowing that the United States would “guide” stranded ships through the Strait, which has been effectively closed by Iranian attacks since the war began. That has led to a spike in oil prices and triggered fears of a global economic crisis. Two US-flagged ships are reported to have passed through the key waterway. However, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) – a Gulf ally of the US – said a tanker …
