Iran shares video of US vessel on fire as WW3 fears explode | World | News

Iran’s military has posted footage purportedly showing fire aboard a US submarine drone at the entrance of the Strait of Hormuz. The IRGC Navy said it targeted an American unmanned surface vessel, the Saildrone Explorer, at the entrance to the vital waterway, according to the state Fars news agency. It accused the vessel, with hull number 5838, of carrying out a mission in the Strait when it was targeted. The IRGC Navy emphasised that the Strait of Hormuz is closed and under the control and intelligence supervision of this force, and any “hostile presence” in the area will be targeted. Quoting senior US officials, Fox News chief national security correspondent Jennifer Griffin reported: “The US military has struck targets near Kharg Island and Jask. “The targets include Iranian oil tankers. This is part of a larger effort to squeeze Iran economically. The strategy includes sinking and disabling Iranian crude oil tankers.” The attack came after the US President posted an AI-generated video showing the destruction of Iran’s oil hub on the island. The video also …

A woman and her 5-month-old baby died after a boat capsized near Liberty Island in the New York Harbor on Saturday night. The boat’s captain, identified as Manuel Hernandez, 46, was arrested and initially charged with 13 counts of reckless endangerment, according to the New York Police Department and the Coast Guard. He was taken into federal custody and the New York Southern District Court will now take on the investigation, the NYPD confirmed to NBC News. Court records were not immediately available, and it was unclear Sunday whether Hernandez has an attorney. The New York County Defender Services did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Investigators with the Coast Guard are coordinating with New York police to determine “whether the operation constitutes an illegal charter operation,” the Coast Guard said in a statement Sunday. The dead were identified as Queens resident Sara Sanchez, 27, and her baby daughter, Antonella Garcia, according to the NYPD. Iran Says Ukrainian Attack on Vessel in Caspian Sea Killed Sailor

July 25 (Reuters) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry condemned on Saturday a Ukrainian attack on an Iranian commercial vessel in the Caspian Sea, saying it resulted in an explosion that killed one sailor and injured another.    Throughout the war ‌in Ukraine, Kyiv has had ‌to counter Iranian-designed drones deployed by Moscow. Kyiv has offered its drone interception expertise to countries in the Middle East that have suffered strikes from Iran. Tehran described the attack on its vessel as an act of aggression and said it would defend its national interests and security, while accusing Kyiv of seeking to expand the war in Ukraine. The Iranian Foreign Ministry summoned Ukraine’s chargé d’affaires in Tehran to convey its protest over what it described as a “hostile and criminal” attack, Iran’s state news agency IRNA reported.   The Iranian denunciation coincided with comments by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy that Kyiv had noted Russia was passing on its satellite observations in the Middle East to Iran to enable it to direct strikes in the region. Zelenskiy had earlier said that Ukraine’s …

Oil gains after vessel attacks near Strait of Hormuz

Oil gains after vessel attacks near Strait of Hormuz

July 7 : Oil prices rose on Tuesday as reports of attacks on vessels near the Strait of Hormuz revived fears of disruptions to shipping through the critical energy transit route. Brent crude futures gained 89 cents, or 1.24 per cent, to $72.88 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude rose 71 cents, or 1.04 per cent, to $69.26 a barrel at 0939 GMT. “The overriding theme this morning is a ship being shot at in the Strait of Hormuz,” Saxo Bank analyst Ole Hansen said. “That’s bringing some geopolitical risk premium back into the price. It’s not a lot compared with what we’ve seen in the past, but it’s the main driver behind the bid in the market.” “So if there’s any further escalation, then $75 would be the natural level to look at next ahead of $80.” A Saudi-flagged crude oil tanker was damaged near the Strait of Hormuz – close to the coast of Oman – after a Qatari liquefied natural gas tanker was struck in the same area, maritime security …

UN halts escort of ships through Hormuz after vessel comes under attack

By Jonathan Saul, Gram Slattery and Tala Ramadan LONDON/MANAMA/DUBAI, June 25 (Reuters) – The U.N. International Maritime Organization paused its operation to escort ships through the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday after a vessel reported an attack, reigniting concerns about whether a preliminary deal to end the Iran war will hold. Taiwan’s Evergreen Marine said on Friday its ship ‌was hit close to Oman by an “unknown object” while on a route recommended by the British navy agency UKMTO. The agency said earlier a vessel had been struck by a projectile ‌hours after Tehran warned vessels against taking routes it had not approved. Two U.S. officials told Reuters that Iran had fired on the ship, while Iran’s Persian Gulf Strait Authority, which Tehran established to manage requests for ships to travel through the strait, said vessels outside routes it has set will not be guaranteed safe passage. “Consequences arising from passage through unauthorized routes shall be the responsibility of the owner, operator, and vessel commander,” the Iranian authority said. Evergreen said its Singapore-flagged Ever Lovely …

The comment came as Trump is facing criticism from some Republican lawmakers over his handling of the war against Iran and the memorandum of understanding. “America falsely claims our unfrozen assets will buy their agriculture. Interesting,” Ghalibaf wrote in a post on X. “The only crop we’re harvesting is what you planted: decades of mistrust,” Ghalibaf wrote. “It’s organic, abundant, and homegrown. But apparently the US …

Noah’s Ark vessel is ‘real’ as huge excavation gets green light | World | News

Researchers are undertaking a high-tech investigation of the Durupinar Formation in eastern Turkey (Image: SWNS) A puzzling boat-shaped structure high in the Turkish mountains may finally unveil its mysteries after researchers secured authorisation for a comprehensive excavation. Investigators believe the Durupinar Formation, located in eastern Turkey, represents the final resting place of Noah’s Ark. The group from Noah’s Ark Scans has now obtained official government permits to commence the most advanced scientific examination in history at the location near Mount Ararat. The cutting-edge expedition will utilise non-destructive core drilling, subsurface imaging, and a specialised underground drone dubbed “Gopher” to chart the subterranean anomalies. The group hopes the upcoming investigation will furnish the world with “irrefutable proof” that the Bible’s most renowned vessel has been located. Advocates argue the structure precisely corresponds with the dimensions of the Ark described in Genesis – 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high (approximately 515ft by 86ft). While sceptics maintain the formation is simply a distinctive natural rock feature, extraordinary radar scans have previously identified angular structures …
