Iran shares video of US vessel on fire as WW3 fears explode | World | News

Iran’s military has posted footage purportedly showing fire aboard a US submarine drone at the entrance of the Strait of Hormuz. The IRGC Navy said it targeted an American unmanned surface vessel, the Saildrone Explorer, at the entrance to the vital waterway, according to the state Fars news agency.

It accused the vessel, with hull number 5838, of carrying out a mission in the Strait when it was targeted. The IRGC Navy emphasised that the Strait of Hormuz is closed and under the control and intelligence supervision of this force, and any “hostile presence” in the area will be targeted.

Quoting senior US officials, Fox News chief national security correspondent Jennifer Griffin reported: “The US military has struck targets near Kharg Island and Jask.

“The targets include Iranian oil tankers. This is part of a larger effort to squeeze Iran economically. The strategy includes sinking and disabling Iranian crude oil tankers.”

The attack came after the US President posted an AI-generated video showing the destruction of Iran’s oil hub on the island. The video also showed a caption that read: “Kharg Island being blown to smithereens!!!”

Just hours before the video was posted on Truth Social, the US conducted a strike resulting in several casualties and fatalities on Iran’s Larak Island.

US Central Command said it destroyed five Iranian crude oil carriers in the Persian Gulf on Tuesday in response to more attempted missile strikes on a navy warship.

It wrote on X: “No US Navy warship has been struck; all IRGC attempted attacks failed.”

Iran’s foreign ministry also slammed Washington’s attacks as “illegal and aggressive” and warned of “consequences”.

It said: “Responsibility for the consequences arising from the continuation of US aggressive and interventionist actions in the region will rest with the US regime and its accomplices and partners.”
