Amid a broad crisis in higher education in the US resulting from demographic trends and a combative Trump administration, enrollment at New York’s School of Visual Arts (SVA) is down some 34 percent since 2019, and the school faces a $22 million structural budget deficit, “the largest in its nearly 80-year history,” according to a previously unreported July 1 email to faculty and staff from interim president Christopher J. Cyphers. The school’s annual operating budget is around $200 million. SVA is largely dependent on tuition; full-time tuition is $55,270 annually for the coming school year. Related Articles The drop in enrollment is partly due to the so-called demographic cliff, a plunge in enrollment resulting from a drop in birth rates in the US at the advent of the Great Recession, starting around the end of 2007. Shipping companies and insurers have warned that the strait remains highly dangerous, largely because of fears of sea mines. Last year’s visual identity for the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF) rested on something deceptively simple: an embrace. This year, marking the festival’s double anniversary — its 60th edition, in the 80th year since its founding — the design team has rolled out a different image entirely: a red carpet, stretching out in invitation. Jonatan Kuna, working alongside Aleš Najbrt of Prague-based design house Studio Najbrt, is the creative force behind this year’s look, which will turn up everywhere from festival merchandise to the streets of the picturesque Czech spa town during the event itself. Like George, William’s choice to attend Eton in 1995 made global news. On his first day of school, television broadcasters, photographers, and reporters stood outside steel barriers to watch Prince Charles and Princess Diana (then separated) drop off their eldest son. William arrived in front of the ivy-covered buildings wearing a tweed jacket and gray trousers. A team of 19 protection officers were housed across the campus. Three years later, Prince Harry joined him. Both donned Eton’s traditional uniform, a black tailcoat and waistcoat, pinstripe trousers, winged collar and white bow tie. (The formality of the clothing puzzled even Prince Harry, who was no stranger to pomp and circumstance: “I didn’t even know how to get dressed in the morning,” he wrote in his memoir, Spare.)
