USAID was shut down ‘to soothe ego’ of Musk, whistleblower says – Tête à tête

In an interview with FRANCE 24, Nicolas Enrich, a former senior USAID official-turned-whistleblower, said the US agency was dismantled not to cut waste but “to soothe the ego of the world’s richest man”, then DOGE head Elon Musk. Enrich warned that up to 14 million people could die in the next five years as a result and called the shutdown “illegal”. Enrich, a former director of policy in USAID’s Bureau for Global Health who was ousted after publishing an internal memo, said the DOGE team had “no idea” what the agency did. He recalled briefing its newly appointed chief of staff, only to be met with the admission: “Wow, I had no idea that you did all this. I assumed it was just, you know, abortions.” The dismantlement of the agency, he said, served not to “eliminate waste” but “to soothe the ego of the world’s richest man.” Read moreUS foreign aid cuts could cause 14 million deaths by 2030, Lancet study finds Enrich dismissed US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s claim that “no one has died” …

Palm Springs Art Museum Refutes Whistleblower Allegations

Palm Springs Art Museum Refutes Whistleblower Allegations

The Palm Springs Art Museum in California has released a three-page statement saying that an investigation conducted in response to a whistleblower complaint alleging mismanagement and fraud found no wrongdoing by the museum. The museum declined to provide ARTnews a copy of the resulting report, which will not be publicly released. The whistleblower complaint made numerous detailed allegations. Among them are claims that the museum improperly reclassified funds in its endowment to meet cash crunches; that there is a $3 million discrepancy in the balance of the museum’s investment account; and that a former director was improperly forced out to make way to promote an internal hire after a problematic search process. The museum’s statement reveals little in the way of specifics about those allegations, but broadly says there was no wrongdoing and that while there may have been errors, there was no improper intent. Related Articles The museum retained law firm Barnes & Thornburg and forensic accounting firm RSM US to conduct the six-month investigation. Neither firm responded to a request to confirm that …

Whistleblower Complaint Alleges Misconduct at Palm Springs Art Museum

An anonymous whistleblower has raised allegations of misconduct by leadership at California’s Palm Springs Art Museum, claiming violations of the law and institutional best practices.  The whistleblower claims that the museum improperly moved funds between various accounts in order to meet severe cash crunches. The whistleblower alleged that a former director was forced out based on trumped-up staff complaints, and that the museum failed to even interview two qualified candidates to replace him before promoting an internal candidate. Related Articles In resignation letters that were reviewed by ARTnews, two board members said they tried to get financial problems and accounting inconsistencies addressed before being stonewalled by longstanding board members. The whistleblower complaint was forwarded to ARTnews in the form of emails from July 2025 and December 2025, both of which were addressed to, among others, California Attorney General Rob Bonta and United States Attorney for the Southern District of California Adam Gordon.  Gordon’s office did not answer an emailed inquiry from ARTnews. Bonta’s office replied that it is “committed to upholding laws that protect charitable gifts and donations,” but …

USAID Whistleblower Says It Was Even Worse Than People Knew

USAID Whistleblower Says It Was Even Worse Than People Knew

When billionaire Elon Musk’s so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) swept through government in the first months of 2025, there was one agency that felt the full force of the group’s desire to move fast and break things: the US Agency for International Development (USAID). DOGE’s mandate was to cut contracts and government spending in a futile quest to reduce the federal deficit by $2 trillion. On January 28, 2025, Secretary of State Marco Rubio issued a waiver for “lifesaving humanitarian assistance,” which should have allowed money for critical projects to continue to flow. But according to Nicholas Enrich, who was then the acting assistant administrator for global health, that’s not what happened. By early February, the group had taken over the agency, shut down its emails, and left tens of billions of dollars in foreign aid funding in limbo. Within days, the agency’s staff had been cut from 10,000 to 300, and by July the agency had been merged with the State Department. According to estimates from Boston University, more than 700,000 people died …

Gabbard Rejects Claims She Withheld Whistleblower Complaint From Congress

Gabbard Rejects Claims She Withheld Whistleblower Complaint From Congress

WASHINGTON, Feb 7 (Reuters) – U.S. Director of National Intelligence ‌Tulsi Gabbard on Saturday disputed claims ‌by lawmakers that she sought to block Congress from accessing a whistleblower complaint, saying she took “immediate action” once notified of the need to provide security guidance for its ‍release.  A top-secret complaint filed with the intelligence community’s inspector general last May by an anonymous government official alleged that the U.S. spy chief’s office sought to prevent the routine dissemination of certain classified intelligence for political reasons.  Gabbard was appointed to her post by Republican President Donald Trump last year. A November letter from Andrew Bakaj, the whistleblower’s lawyer, to Gabbard’s office, which was also shared with the House ‌of Representatives and Senate intelligence committees, alleged that Gabbard had hindered the dissemination of the ‌May complaint to lawmakers by ‍failing to provide necessary security guidance on how to handle it.  Democrats such as Senator Mark Warner, the vice chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, have said that Gabbard’s agency, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, was required …

Fed Chair Jerome Powell turns whistleblower against Trump

Fed Chair Jerome Powell turns whistleblower against Trump

Late Sunday evening, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell rang the alarm for the men who run America’s largest corporations, banks and consultancies and are convinced that Donald Trump’s authoritarianism is just another variable to be modeled, hedged or arbitraged. In a video statement, the Republican Powell hit back against the Justice Department’s political weaponization against the Federal Reserve’s independence.  On Friday evening, the Justice Department served the Fed with grand jury subpoenas, threatening criminal indictment against Powell for his June testimony before the Senate Banking Committee about the bank’s building renovation project. The official pretext for the subpoenas is whether Powell accurately characterized details about a $2.5 billion renovation of the Fed’s Washington headquarters. The real reason, which the chair stated plainly in his extraordinary message, is that he refused to lower interest rates as quickly as Trump demanded.  Powell is being punished for refusing to bend monetary policy to the whims of an authoritarian president who believes the entire machinery of government exists to serve his personal interests and ambitions. Let’s be absolutely clear …

A person claiming to be a food delivery company ‘whistleblower’ fooled the internet with AI’s help

An anonymous Reddit user’s claims of fraud and theft by an unnamed food delivery company appear to have been an artificial intelligence-fueled ruse that has spread across the internet, outpacing efforts to debunk it. The viral post, first published Friday, has elicited strong denials from major delivery apps that have been the subjects of past scrutiny for exploitive worker policies. It accrued more than 87,000 upvotes on Reddit and millions of impressions across other social media platforms where screenshots have circulated, before being removed by Reddit moderators Tuesday evening. Behind the scenes, as reporters tried to substantiate the claims, the ruse continued — still with AI. On Reddit, comments responding to the post generally accepted the claims as true. “As a human I think companies that try to charge different humans different amounts for the same things should no longer be allowed to operate,” said one response, which received more than 1,800 upvotes. “This sounds like a massive class action lawsuit if you do things right, with a high chance for the drivers to win …
