BBC mystery drama A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, adapted from Holly Jackson’s bestselling YA novel series of the same name, returns for a second season – as Pip finds herself pulled into another dangerous mystery.
After solving the Andie Bell case, she launches a podcast detailing her true crime exploits. But it’s not long before Pip’s sleuthing skills are needed once again when a new case emerges.
And while Pip can’t resist a mystery, the emotion of another challenging case begins to take its toll.
“I think she’s a bit checked out [by the end],” said Myers. “I don’t want to spoil what happens, but she has definitely lost hope in every single person who said they would help her.
“She’s had to do everything herself again, and it hasn’t turned out the way she hoped.”
A number of familiar faces return alongside Myers as Pip, plus some newcomers who are guaranteed to shake up proceedings.

Emma Myers plays Pip
Who is Pip? “Season 2 opens in a very dramatic way,” said Myers. “At the end of episode 1, we find that Jamie, Connor’s brother, has gone missing.
“Pip thinks it has something to do with Max’s trial because Jamie is a witness. Pip’s a bit reluctant to help find Jamie because of what has happened in the past, where, through uncovering who killed Andie and Sal, Pip, not intentionally, ruins a few people’s lives.”
Where have I seen Emma Myers before? She’s best known for Wednesday and A Minecraft Movie. She also appeared in Family Switch and Girl in the Basement.
Zain Iqbal plays Ravi
Who is Ravi? In season 1, his brother Sal was cleared of murdering Andie Bell after Pip cleared his name. He also grew close to Pip and they’re now in a relationship.
“Ravi is quite aware,” he said. “He’s a good soul. He knows what’s right and wrong. He’s a great guide for Pip. He is always there and always up for a challenge. When Pip wants to do something, he always turns up. You get a bit of everything playing Ravi. There are fun scenes, emotional scenes, and there are moments of action.”
Where have I seen Zain Iqbal before? This is his most notable role to date.
Asha Banks plays Cara
Who is Cara? Pip’s best friend. Their relationship is in a tricky place after the events of season 1, which saw Pip uncover the inappropriate relationship between Cara’s dad, Elliot, and Andie.
“Cara starts season 2 in a bit of a dark place,” said Banks. “She is still very much dealing with the trauma that happened in season 1 and the discoveries that emerged by the end of it.
“This season for her is quite hard, especially the dynamic between her and Pip. Cara is figuring out what their relationship is and how they move forward with that, and her overall place in the group when she feels like an outcast. Right now, Cara is just trying to get through every day.”
Where have I seen Asha Banks before? She’s best known for My Fault: London. Her CV also includes Rebel Cheer Squad and The Magic Flute.
Jude Morgan-Collie plays Connor
Who is Connor? One of Pip’s close friends. He’s described as “funny” and “daft”. His brother disappears in season 2.
Where have I seen Jude Morgan-Collie before? You might know him from Here We Go.
Yali Topol Margalith plays Lauren
Who is Lauren? Pip’s good friend. “She brings a sort of Marilyn Monroe comic aspect to the character,” said season 1 director Dolly Wells. She has a huge crush on Max’s cousin Robin.
Where have I seen Yali Topol Margalith before? She’s appeared in House of David and The Tattooist of Auschwitz.
Henry Ashton plays Max
Who is Max? He was one of Sal’s best friends. Max comes from wealth and is entitled and arrogant. He is set to go on trial for drugging and sexually assaulting Andie’s sister, Becca.
Where have I seen Henry Ashton before? You might know him from My Lady Jane. He also appeared in a couple of episodes of Outlander.
Eden H Davies plays Jamie
Who is Jamie? Connor’s brother. After he goes missing in season 2, Pip decides to track him down.
What else has Eden H Davies been in? You might have watched him in Tell Me Everything.
Jack Rowan plays Charlie Green
Who is Charlie Green? Pip’s new neighbour. He is “drawn into the heart of the mystery”.
What else has Jack Rowan been in? His credits include Noughts and Crosses and Peaky Blinders.
Misia Butler plays Stanley Forbes
Who is Stanley Forbes? “A figure on the fringes of the investigation, with connections that may run deeper than they seem.”
What else has Misia Butler been in? His credits include KAOS and The Bastard Son & the Devil Himself.
Yasmin Al-Khudhairi plays Naomi
Who is Naomi? Cara’s older sister. She was best friends with Sal.
Where have I seen Yasmin Al-Khudhairi before? She’s best known for Ackley Bridge.
Jackson Bews plays Dan
Who is Dan? A police officer who was involved with Andie’s case.
Where have I seen Jackson Bews before? He’s had roles in Black Mirror’s San Junipero, Maleficent and Doctors.
Jessica Webber plays Nat
Who is Nat? She was one of Andie’s best friends and Dan’s sister.
What else has Jessica Weber been in? You might know her from After Everything.
Carla Woodcock plays Becca
Who is Becca? Andie’s younger sister. She accidentally killed Andie after pushing her during an argument. Andie had supplied the drugs that Max used to incapacitate and rape her.
Where have I seen Carla Woodcock before? She’s best known for Free Rein. You might also have watched her in Ackley Bridge, Tell Me Everything and Such Brave Girls.
Freddie England plays Robin Hastings
Who is Robin Hastings? Max’s cousin. His family loyalty is tested when he finds himself drawn into Pip’s friendship group.
What else has Freddie England been in? This is his first TV role.
Annabel Mullion and Adam Astill play Rosie and Toby Hastings
Who are Rosie and Toby Hastings? Henry’s parents. His mother idolises him while his father considers him a disappointment.
What else have Annabel Mullion and Adam Astill been in? The former has appeared in The Night Manager and Law and Order: UK, while the latter’s credits include EastEnders, Holby City and Doctors.
Anna Maxwell Martin plays Leanne
Who is Leanne? Pip’s mum. “She’s trying, sometimes failing,” said Maxwell Martin. “I think she’s pretty nice as a mum, she just cares about and is a bit worried about her. She can see Pip going down a precarious road.
“She’s pretty sensible, although I can imagine her feeling a bit full-on, maybe a little bit pushy. She has high expectations of Pip, which I think means she is pushy – she can’t bear to see her waste her life.”
Where have I seen Anna Maxwell Martin before? You might have watched her in Motherland, Ludwig, Line of Duty, Until I Kill You, Code 404, Bleak House, Hollington Drive and The Bletchley Circle.
Gary Beadle plays Victor and Kamari Loyd plays Josh
Who is Victor? Pip’s stepfather. “Victor is loving, doting, compassionate and empathetic,” said Beadle. “Emma and Victor are both complete nerds in terms of doing meticulous preparation for any kind of project, task or anything. He absolutely adores his wife.
“I feel like he’s a very amiable fellow, and that his wife brings out the best in him. But more than anything, he is that calm tempo amongst the chaos.”
Where have I seen Gary Beadle before? He’s best known for EastEnders. You might also know him from Hard Truths, The Gentlemen and The Wheel of Time.
Who is Josh? Pip’s half-brother.
Where have I see Kamari Loyd before? This is Loyd’s biggest role to date.
