EastEnders icon teases Cindy Beale revenge: “God forbid what’s gonna happen”

It seems revenge will be the order of the day from Cindy Beale in the coming months on EastEnders.

The BBC One soap has been teasing a New Year’s Day wedding for Max Branning (Jake Wood) since the flash-forward episode in January.

Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) seemed assured as Max’s bride upon their recent engagement, but now their big day has been moved forward to September.

However, there is a big hitch: Max has been cheating on her with employee Priya Nandra-Hart (Sophie Khan Levy), who is now pregnant with his child.

Speaking to Radio Times on the set of Albert Square, actress Michelle Collins has teased what to expect from the Walford schemer when she learns the truth.

In the run-up to the wedding in September, Cindy has been suspicious about Max’s behaviour, but he has easily talked his way out of it.

Collins noted: “Max is just very, very good at being Max, isn’t he? Max Branning is kind of notorious, isn’t he?”

Reckless romantic choices and messy moves are common among Cindy’s behaviour, and her whirlwind romance with Max is proving to be no exception.

“Cindy’s always done is she’s always followed her heart, which, as you get older, possibly isn’t the right thing to always do,” lamented Collins. “I mean, she’s totally smitten with Max Branning, totally smitten with Max Branning…until she isn’t. Do you know what I mean?

“So, God forbid what’s going to happen because hell hath no fury than a Cindy scorned.”

Of course, Cindy herself is no stranger to infidelity. Cindy cheated on ex-husband Ian Beale with his stepbrother Simon Wicks (Nick Berry), lifeguard Matt (Toby Walton), Ian’s half-brother David Wicks (Michael French), her own former stepson Junior Knight (Micah Balfour), and emotionally cheated on Ian with her other ex-husband, George Knight (Colin Salmon).

However, now Cindy is poised to suffer at the hands of Max’s wicked ways.

The actress mused: “Cindy actually has never been cheated on, and in fact, the producers asked me- or was it the script editor- said, ‘Has Cindy ever been cheated on before?’ And I kind of thought, ’No, she hasn’t actually.’ So it’ll be interesting to see. I mean, I’m sure some people say that she probably needs a bit of her own medicine.”

Despite this, Collins has great empathy for her character and Cindy’s love for Max will really mean a great deal of pain when the truth comes to light.

“She’ll be heartbroken,” noted Collins, “I mean, she might be Cindy, but she’s still human. That’s the thing I think about Cindy: she has all these kinds of traits, that she’s flawed, and she’s this and that, but ultimately, she is human, and she messes up and makes mistakes, and I think that’s why people kind of love to watch her. She’s just so unpredictable.”

Will the other woman, Priya, be spared Cindy’s wrath? Well, Collins hints it will play into Cindy’s deeper insecurities.

Collins mused: “How does a woman react to another woman? She’s marrying a man. The other woman is young. She’s beautiful. I think Cindy’s a very confident woman, but she’s not. She’s not young, and I think, you know, that could be the thing with Cindy.”

She also cited Priya’s previous tryst with Cindy’s son Peter Beale (Thomas Law) too: “She’s not going to like it, is she?”

We can say that again!

I studied medicine in Brighton and qualified as a doctor and for the last 2 years been writing blogs. While there are are many excellent blogs devoted to the topics of faith, humanism, atheism, political viewpoints, and wider kinds of rationalism and philosophical doubt, those are not the only focus here.Im going to blog about what ever comes to my mind in a day.
