SEG Solar is doubling down on US manufacturing with plans for a third solar module factory in the Houston, Texas, area.
The Houston-based company announced on Monday that it’s building a new 4.6-gigawatt (GW) solar module manufacturing facility in Greater Houston. Once it’s online, SEG says its planned US module manufacturing capacity will hit 10.6 GW annually.
That would make SEG one of the larger domestic solar module manufacturers at a time when US solar companies are racing to localize supply chains amid shifting tariffs and trade rules.
SEG has already signed an agreement with a local construction company to develop the new facility, which will span around 1.15 million square feet and include both a factory and warehouse.
The announcement comes just ahead of the grand opening of SEG’s second US factory, a 4 GW facility that’s scheduled to officially open on August 7, 2026.
Construction on the new Texas solar module factory is expected to wrap up in March 2027, with commercial production starting in May 2027.
SEG says the new plant is being designed to support production of heterojunction (HJT) solar modules, a next-generation solar technology known for higher efficiency.
The company also said the facility is being planned to support “foreign entity of concern” (FEOC)-compliant production. FEOC is a designation tied to new US sourcing and manufacturing requirements aimed at reducing reliance on Chinese supply chains.
SEG is also looking further upstream in its supply chain. The company said it has started planning for an ingot and wafer manufacturing facility in Indonesia to help secure key solar components and improve supply chain resilience.
At the same time, SEG says it’s evaluating potential US sites for a dedicated HJT solar cell factory as it pushes to localize more of its manufacturing process in the US.
