Miquita Oliver is reflecting on “awful” comments she once made about her former Radio 1 colleague Fearne Cotton, which led to her being fired.

The British presenter was employed by the BBC for around two years in the mid-2000s, until being abruptly dropped for what she later claimed was an interview in which she branded Fearne a “devil woman”.

“I worked there when I was 19 until I was 21, and then I did an interview in NME where I said a lot of silly things and they let me go,” she told Heat magazine in 2009.

She claimed: “It was very sad, as I was into radio. But I hadn’t done much press, so I didn’t really know what I was doing. I thought I was clued up, but I wasn’t.”

During the latest instalment of her popular podcast Miss Me?, Miquita took a moment to reflect on her “tumultuous” relationship with Fearne, claiming she’d made some “really awful” comments about her in the past.

“I would like to tell the story of me and Fearne Cotton,” she told co-host Jordan Stephens. “I did an interview in NME and I wasn’t very nice about her at all. I was awful about her and I was fired from Radio 1 because of it, so I lived in a lot of consequence.”

Admitting she’d been “really ashamed” of the incident “for a long time”, Miquita went on to claim that she and Fearne “didn’t like each other” in those days, before conceding: “I don’t even think she didn’t like me – but because I’d been so awful about her she stayed away from me.”

Years later, Miquita noted that she and Fearne would be “civil” to one another when they socialised, “but it was a little bit uncomfortable”.

Fortunately, she concluded by saying that she and her fellow presenter are now on good terms, after Fearne was moved by a clip of Miquita becoming emotional while reflecting on the scrutiny she faced in the press earlier in her career.

The former T4 presenter shared: “She sent me a message on Instagram when I was having a fucking awful time. She said, ‘Hey Miquita, I just watched a clip of you talking about how the press used to refer to you and it resonated deeply. I just wanted to say thank you for opening up about it. Sending love’.”

When footage of the podcast was shared on Instagram, Fearne commented: “Beyond grateful for how we’ve reconnected. Makes me very happy.”

Miquita began presenting Miss Me? in 2024, alongside her friend Lily Allen.

Earlier this year, it was reported that Lily was stepping down from the podcast for good, following her successful return to the music world, with Jordan Stephens taking over as Miquita’s permanent co-host.
