A member of the public found the baby’s body near Siliwen Road shortly before 5pm on Sunday, September 27. The force said its immediate concern remains the health and wellbeing of the mother and has urged her to come forward and seek support. Superintendent Llinos Davies said: “My message to her is that you do not have to face this alone. Please get in touch and seek the support you may need. There are people ready to help you.” Police have also appealed to members of the public who may have information that could help officers identify the mother.
Superintendent Davies added: “I understand that this is a shocking incident for the community and I am grateful for the support and assistance that we have received so far.
“I continue to urge anybody with information regarding a woman or girl you think may have been pregnant or whose behaviour has been unusual or out of character over the past few months to please contact us.
“All names received will be treated with the utmost discretion and can be eliminated as the mother without delay.”
Officers will remain in the Bangor area in the coming days as the investigation continues, with cordons still in place to allow police to carry out their work.
Officers have been carrying out house-to-house enquiries and reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area as part of the investigation.
Police are also working alongside the Coastguard, Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board and other organisations to establish the circumstances surrounding the baby’s death.
Earlier in the investigation, officers appealed directly to the baby’s father, as well as friends, family, neighbours and colleagues who may know the mother’s identity.
Anyone with immediate concerns is being asked to contact North Wales Police on 101, quoting Operation Melex.
A Major Incident Public Portal (MIPP) has been created for anyone with information that could assist police enquiries.
Information can also be provided anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers.
Alternatively, people can contact the health board’s Peoples Enquiry and Resolution Service between 10am and 4pm, Monday to Friday, on 03000 851 234.
