Rebekah Vardy addresses Wagatha Christie scanda: ‘Hell will freeze over before I apologise to Coleen Rooney’

Rebekah Vardy has claimed that she’s finally “over” the “Wagatha Christie” drama, seven years after Coleen Rooney accused her of selling stories about her to the tabloids – although “hell will freeze over” before the 44-year-old apologises.

In July 2022, Vardy lost her libel case against Rooney after a judge found that the wife of footballer Wayne Rooney had proven that her claims about Vardy were “substantially true”.

Years later, Rebekah Vardy and her husband Jamie are returning to the spotlight for a new reality show – with Vardy saying that she’s “so f***ing bored” of addressing the libel drama.

“I’m never, ever, going to apologise for something I didn’t do… Hell will freeze over before I do that,” she said, according to The Telegraph.

“It’s over, it’s done, I’m not going to carry on living in the past. I’m so f***ing bored of it.”

She added that she has found “peace” and no longer bears a grudge towards Rooney, but still does not agree with the judge’s 2022 ruling.

“I’m living with the judgment the judge made but, still to this day, I believe she was wrong,” she said.

Meanwhile, Jamie added that his wife was not the “villain” people thought she was.

“People thinking that Bex was a villain, it’s just a load of s but everyone close to her knows, that’s all she needs,” she said, adding that it was “really tough seeing Bex in pain”.

“Becky’s a strong woman. If she wasn’t, it would definitely have broken her.”

The public fallout gripped the nation back in 2019, when Rooney revealed on social media that she had been sharing a number of “false” stories on her private Instagram Stories to sniff out which of her friends had been passing details onto The Sun newspaper.

“After years of my personal instagram posts getting leaked to the SUN newspaper…..I’ve finally cracked it and know exactly who’s [sic] account is is !!!!” Rooney posted to Instagram, before ending the post with the now-iconic phrase, “It’s… Rebekah Vardy’s account,” resulting in Rooney earning the nickname of “Wagatha Christie”.

Vardy filed a libel action against Rooney, claiming that she “suffered extreme distress, hurt, anxiety and embarrassment as a result of the publication of the post and the events which followed”.

In 2022, she lost the action and was ordered to pay £1.8m to cover 90 per cent of Rooney’s legal costs. Last year, Vardy challenged the ruling, arguing in the High Court that Rooney had deliberately understated her costs at an earlier hearing – however, a judge found that no misconduct had been committed.

She will be starring in a new ITV reality show alongside husband Jamie, with The Vardys set to follow the couple as they move to Italy after the “Wagatha Christie” libel case.
