China-based actors are likely behind the use of ChatGPT for “covert influence operations” aimed at stoking opposition to data centres in the United States, OpenAI has said. In a research report released on Wednesday, the company behind the world’s most popular AI chatbot said it had banned a cluster of accounts likely based in China for attempting to “manipulate a legitimate debate about American AI”. James Handy’s girlfriend has spoken out after her son was arrested in connection to the murder of the beloved Hollywood actor. Officers found Handy unconscious and suffering from a stab wound to his chest in the front yard of a Los Angeles home Wednesday morning. The 81-year-old, known for his decades-long career as an iconic character actor, was pronounced dead at a hospital. Investigators arrested the son of Handy’s girlfriend, 44-year-old Michael Gledhill, on suspicion of murder, the Los Angeles Police Department said in a release. Officials said he lived at the residence, located in the Tarzana neighborhood, with his mother, who has been identified by media reports as Wendy Gledhill. The agreement, negotiated by union leaders last month, was approved by members of the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA). The ratification was widely anticipated, with negotiations proceeding without the industrial action that plagued the entertainment industry in 2023. Over 90 per cent of votes cast by union members endorsed the deal, with approximately 19 per cent of eligible voters participating. Similar to the Writers Guild of America, which approved its own contract in April, the actors’ new agreement spans four years instead of the customary three, providing an additional layer of stability for the industry.
