Nicola Walker plays Alice
Who is Alice? Alice is a middle-class woman, who has a successful career at a company that designs children’s clothes. She is married, with two children, and has a care-free platonic relationship with longtime best friend, Steve (a recent divorcee).
After one fateful night, when Steve gets together with Alice’s 20-something daughter, that friendship is blown apart – quite possibly beyond any hope of repair.
Alice is sent reeling by the decision and sets about a series of devious schemes to split up the fledgling couple, or at the very least, destroy Steve’s life as he knows it.
What else has Nicola Walker been in? Walker is one of the most recognisable faces on British TV, with credits including Spooks, Unforgotten, Last Tango in Halifax, The Split, Annika and Marriage. Most recently, she appeared opposite Julianne Moore in offbeat historical drama Mary & George.
Jemaine Clement plays Steve
Who is Steve? Steve is Alice’s best friend of many years. He has a cool and comfortable life as a hair stylist for famous people, but feels somewhat lonely following a recent divorce as he struggles to reintegrate into the dating scene.
That all changes after a chance encounter with Alice’s daughter, Izzy (herself getting over a break-up), which sparks an unexpected romance – and a whole lot of trouble for all involved.
What else has Jemaine Clement been in? Clement rose to fame as part of the musical comedy duo Flight of the Conchords, alongside screen partner Bret McKenzie. He has also collaborated with actor and filmmaker Taika Waititi on the likes of Eagle vs Shark and What We Do in the Shadows (the 2014 film that inspired the FX sitcom).
Clement is also known for playing Dr Ian Garvin in recent Avatar sequels The Way of Water and Fire and Ash, as well as Oliver Bird in mind-bending Marvel series Legion.
Yali Topol Margalith plays Izzy
Who is Izzy? Izzy is Alice’s free-spirited daughter. She has recently broken up with her aloof boyfriend and moved back home, where she becomes reacquainted with her mother’s friend, Steve. Although conscious that their romance is unconventional, she isn’t willing to bend to her mother’s wishes of ending it altogether.
What else has Yali Topol Margalith been in? Margalith has previously appeared in the BBC/Netflix hit A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder and Sky drama adaptation The Tattooist of Auschwitz.
Joel Fry plays Daniel
Who is Daniel? Daniel is Alice’s husband, Dom’s father and a step-dad to Izzy, who Alice had with an earlier (and now absent) partner. He has always been unthreatened by Alice’s closeness with Steve, but finds himself similarly rattled when the family friend strikes up a romance with Izzy. Still, he tries to maintain more composure than his wife is able to muster.
What else has Joel Fry been in? Fry is best known for comedic roles in the likes of W1A, Plebs, Our Flag Means Death and Bank of Dave. Most recently, he’s appeared in Paddington in Peru, Inside No. 9 and Doctor Who Christmas special Joy to the World.
Tyrese Eaton-Dyce plays Dom
Who is Dom? Dom is Alice and Daniel’s son, who is still at school and considering his love life for the first time.
What else has Tyrese Eaton-Dyce been in? You may recognise the up and comer from his role in the first season of BBC One’s Sherwood, while he also appeared in acclaimed indie film How to Have Sex.
Marcia Warren plays Val
Who is Val? Val is Alice’s mother, who is a party animal at heart and doesn’t take life too seriously.
What else has Marcia Warren been in? Warren appeared opposite Ian McKellen and Derek Jacobi in the ITV sitcom Vicious, while more recently she portrayed the Queen Mother in The Crown seasons 5 and 6.
Eilidh Fisher plays Rome
Who is Rome? Rome is a friend of Dom’s from school, but the pair are still figuring out the precise nature of their relationship.
What else has Eilidh Fisher been in? The actor recently played Evie Galloway in BBC crime drama Dope Girls and Bailey in Prime Video’s sci-fi adaptation The Power. Fisher also appeared opposite Saoirse Ronan in her acclaimed drama The Outrun.
