Boy Punctures Magritte Painting With a Pinecone at the Israel Museum
René Magritte’s The Castle of the Pyrenees (1959) has gone to the conservation lab at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem after being accidentally damaged by a young museum visitor. A boy visiting the museum with his family punctured the painting with a pinecone before a museum guard could stop him, museum staff told The Times of Israel. Sharon Tager, head of conservation at the museum, told Ha’aretz that repairs would take several weeks. “We’re experienced in conserving paintings and objects that arrive in poor condition, including works that have been stored since the Holocaust period,” Tager told Ha’aretz. “The first stage is treating the base itself because the hole caused the canvas to sag. Bobby Bloomfield, 12, has been named in touching tributes paid following the tragic collision on Sunday. Emergency services were called to Ashwells Road on Sunday where Bobby was found with serious injuries. He was rushed to hospital for immediate treatment but sadly later died. A boy aged 15 and a man aged 43, both from the Pilgrims Hatch area, have been arrested on suspicion of murder. The pair are being quizzed in custody as the investigation continues. Murder investigation launched after boy dies in hospital following London stabbing
Police have started a murder investigation after the death of a boy who was stabbed in north-west London. Officers were called to the scene of the stabbing in Dudden Hill Lane, Dollis Hill, on Saturday at around 10.30pm. Jamal Ringrose, 15, was treated at the scene for stab wounds before being transported to hospital, where he died on Thursday. Detectives have now launched a murder probe and said Jamal’s family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
