Maverick actor James Handy’s accused killer deemed unfit for court appearance

The man accused of fatally stabbing veteran actor James Handy has been referred to a specialist mental health court after his lawyer told a Los Angeles judge that he was currently unable to participate in legal proceedings. Michael Gledhill, 44, is charged with the murder of the 81-year-old actor, who appeared in films including Top Gun: Maverick, Jumanji and Logan. Prosecutors allege the attack took place at James’ Tarzana home on Wednesday, June 3 2026. Michael did not appear in court on Friday, remaining in custody at the Van Nuys courthouse. During the brief hearing, his public defender, Javier Trincado, told Judge John Reid that his client was not currently able to assist in his own defence. © ABCThe actor starred in more than 150 projects throughout his career “We’re asking the court to declare a doubt,” Javier said, using terminology that indicates concerns about a defendant’s mental competency to stand trial. The cast of Buffy the Vampire Slayer has paid tribute to Anthony Head, who has died at the age of 72.  British actor Anthony starred as Rupert Giles in seven seasons of the hit TV series, Buffy’s Watcher and mentor. “RIP… he was so kind and generous of a soul,” David Boreanaz, who worked with Anthony on the first three seasons of the hit show, shared on Stories. “There’s a hole in the World. Anthony Head has passed on from us. He was an unflaggingly kind and steady presence on the set of Buffy, and the best actor in the cast,” wrote James Marsters, who joined the show in season two as the vampire Spike.  “He was the best of us. I was lucky to have known, and learned from him. He left the world a better place for his presence. India Hicks confirmed the death of her mother, Lady Pamela Hicks, on Friday, with the designer penning a moving tribute to the cousin of the late Prince Philip. Alongside a black-and-white image of her late mother, India penned: “My mother died peacefully today. Whilst there is no tragedy in the death of a 97-year-old who has lived a full life I know grief will be unavoidable, lurking around waiting for me, but today I am simply grateful that she was my Mother. Disney legend and R&B icon Peabo Bryson passed away on June 2 surrounded by his family, after suffering a stroke days prior. The 75-year-old, best known for his Disney collaborations, “transitioned peacefully at 5:00 p.m. ET,” according to a statement from his representative.  “We are tremendously moved by the outpouring of love, prayers and support from fans, friends, and colleagues around the world,” his family said. “While our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing how deeply Peabo was loved and how many lives were touched by his voice and his generous spirit. Former child star Foster Sylvers has died aged 64 after a battle with stage four pancreatic cancer, his family has confirmed. The musician, who first found fame in the 1970s as part of the chart-topping family group The Sylvers, died in hospice care, according to his brother Leon Sylvers III.
