Gwyneth Paltrow clarifies political views after her husband believed her to be a Republican

Gwyneth Paltrow has asserted that she is “not a republican” after her husband, Brad Falchuk, assumed she was.

During a recent episode of her Goop podcast, the actor, 53, discussed her political views with guest Trae Stephens, co-founder of AI defense company Anduril. Stephens praised Paltrow for saying she wanted to “engage in more dialogue” with people who had different opinions from hers.

“I notice with my own husband, too, who’s the best person ever in the world. And he’s so progressive,” the Marty Supreme star explained. “Like he has such a sweet heart and he wants to, like, make sure everybody’s looked after. And I think in this climate, sometimes I’m like, ‘Can you just listen to this?’

“In my journey through being an American right now, trying to sort of weave together lots of different points of view, and also to get out of that place of righteousness and anger and fear,” she continued.

“And I mean, I’m pretty centrist, and my husband thinks I’m a Republican,” she said before clarifying that she is “not a Republican.”

The daughter of actor Blythe Danner and the late TV director Bruce Paltrow added, “I don’t feel anything right now, to be totally honest with you. I feel like I’m completely an independent.”

Paltrow’s comments caught fire on social media, with one person on X responding, “She ‘doesn’t FEEL anything right now?’ Gwyneth Paltrow. JFC. I tried a little too long to give her the benefit of the doubt. She just ended that for me. This comes off as tone deaf, entitled, elitist, and severely void of empathy, compassion, or humanity. Yikes. Big fail.”

“Tone deaf,” another agreed. “Shut up, Gwyneth Paltrow. Go out to the cities in America & talk to hard-working people who are struggling.”

“She’s an extremely privileged white woman who’s a nepo baby, like..” a third added. “Of course she doesn’t give a f*** about what’s going on in the world – because it doesn’t affect her. This woman has never been in touch with reality.”

Another added: “she basically just admits that her husband is a better person than her.”

Paltrow has previously spoken about her husband’s progressive views. In December 2025, she gave him a shoutout when she accepted the Sherry Lansing Leadership Award at The Hollywood Reporter’s Women in Entertainment gala.

“Before I go, I just want to say a good thank you to my manager, my husband, Brad Falchuk, who’s the most feminist man I know, the most loving, who lets me be with myself every day,” the actor — who married the Glee co-creator in 2018 — said in her speech.
