Trump Gold Statue at Doral Delayed by Crypto Payment Dispute

Trump Gold Statue at Doral Delayed by Crypto Payment Dispute

A gold-leafed statue of Donald Trump is now standing at his Trump National Doral golf club in Miami after a drawn-out payment dispute. The 15-foot bronze sculpture, which rises to about 22 feet with its pedestal, was finished with gold leaf after the artist, Ohio-based sculptor Alan Cottrill, proposed the upgrade to Trump’s team. “It [was] like pitching ice water to a man dying of thirst,” Cottrill told the Daily Beast.  The addition helped push the cost of the project, commissioned by a group of cryptocurrency investors to promote their $PATRIOT meme coin, from $300,000 to $360,000. Cottrill also demanded compensation for the group’s use of images of the statue to market the token before his payment had been finalized, which he called copyright infringement. Related Articles The two sides eventually agreed on an additional fee for that use, the artist said, but the payments stopped when he was still owed approximately $90,000 for the balance of the usage fee plus additional costs. Cottrill then refused to release the statue, keeping it in an undisclosed location …

Taiwan’s Lai lands in Eswatini in a trip delayed by lack of overflight clearance : NPR

FILE – Taiwan President Lai Ching-te delivers a speech as he inspects Taiwanese reservists participating in reserve military training in Ilan County, Eastern Taiwan, Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2025. ChiangYing-ying/AP hide caption toggle caption ChiangYing-ying/AP TAIPEI, Taiwan — Taiwan’s President Lai Ching-te said he arrived in the African nation of Eswatini on Saturday, days after his government was forced to push back the trip when several countries withdrew permission for him to fly over their territories reportedly over Chinese pressure. In a post on X, Lai said he arrived in Eswatini — Taiwan’s only diplomatic ally in Africa — to “affirm our longstanding friendship.” He said that Taiwan, a self-ruled democracy that China considers part of its territory, “will never be deterred by external pressures.” Lai was originally scheduled to visit the southern African country from April 22, but Taiwanese officials said that flight permits were revoked by Seychelles, Mauritius and Madagascar over “strong pressure from the Chinese authorities, including economic coercion.” In a separate Facebook post on Saturday, Lai wrote that the visit was made …

Taiwan leader makes delayed visit to Eswatini after China objections

“And no country has the right and no country should ever block Taiwan from contributing more to the world,” he added. Earlier Saturday, China’s foreign ministry accused Lai of making a “stowaway-style escape farce” that made him “an international laughing stock”. “No matter how the DPP authorities collude with external forces … it is all in vain and cannot change the fact that Taiwan is part of China,” an unnamed spokesperson said in a statement on the ministry’s website, referring to Lai’s party. “We urge Eswatini and other individual countries to see clearly the general trend of history … and not pull chestnuts out of the fire for a handful of ‘Taiwan independence’ separatists,” the statement said.  Eswatini, a small enclave kingdom formerly known as Swaziland, is one of 12 countries that still recognise Taiwan. China has persuaded other nations to break diplomatic ties with the self-ruled island, which it claims as part of its territory. Lai was due in Eswatini in April for the 40th anniversary of King Mswati III’s accession to the throne, …

Berlin Modern Museum Delayed to 2030 by Moisture Damage Construction Issues

Berlin Modern Museum Delayed to 2030 by Moisture Damage Construction Issues

Another day, another setback for Berlin‘s long awaited Berlin Modern, as moisture damage in the building’s shell and microbial contamination in other parts of the structure have forced the postponement of the museum to 2030. The Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation announced the delay earlier this week, according to Monopol, after the Berlin-Brandenburg Broadcasting Corporation broke the story on the issues. The latest delay adds approximately eight months to the construction timeline for the Herzog & de Meuron-designed building, which was originally scheduled to open this year as the Museum of the 20th Century. Related Articles “All available measures were taken to repair the damage as quickly as possible, and construction did not have to be halted,” an SPK spokesperson told Monopol. The Neue Nationalgalerie plans to begin exhibiting art in the building before its official opening, as that institution can only display a portion of its collection at its current premises. The museum has faced multiple setbacks and criticism over its design since groundbreaking began in December 2019. At the time, completion was scheduled for …

Apple M5 Mac Studio & OLED MacBook Pro Delayed

Apple M5 Mac Studio & OLED MacBook Pro Delayed

Apple is currently grappling with significant production delays for some of its most anticipated devices, including the Mac Mini, Mac Studio, and OLED MacBook Pro. The primary cause of these setbacks is a global shortage of RAM, a critical component in modern computing. This shortage is largely driven by the surging demand for memory in artificial intelligence (AI) servers and large language models (LLMs). The ripple effects of this crisis are being felt across the tech industry, disrupting production schedules, inflating costs, and challenging manufacturers to adapt to an increasingly constrained supply chain. What’s Driving the Global RAM Shortage? The rapid expansion of AI technologies lies at the core of the global RAM shortage. Large language models, which are essential for powering innovative AI systems, require vast amounts of memory to function effectively. AI servers, which serve as the backbone for these models, are consuming RAM at unprecedented rates, leaving less supply available for other industries. This surge in demand has triggered a cascading series of challenges: Custom PC builders are finding it increasingly difficult …

Why The Crash Was Delayed

Why The Crash Was Delayed

Authored by Robert Aro via Mises Institute, Whatever happened to the mother of all crashes that was supposed to arrive when the Federal Reserve began tightening its balance sheet back in 2022? For several years, I’ve been scratching my head, convinced that draining the balance sheet by trillions of dollars should have triggered a systemic banking failure or some other Black Swan event. In the past, crises like Lehman/AIG or the 2020 lockdowns took the blame, when in reality, the root cause was always monetary. From the peak in June 2022 to the trough in December 2025, the asset side of the Fed’s balance sheet shrank by roughly $2.3 trillion. That was the front door. But through the back door, something else was happening on the liability side: the Fed’s Overnight Reverse Repo Facility (RRP) was releasing $2.5 trillion of previously frozen private liquidity back into the financial system.  If Quantitative Tightening (QT) removed liquidity, the RRP added it back… plus interest. To recap: during QT, the Fed allows its holdings of Treasury securities and mortgage-backed securities …

The House Article | How A Secret Government Report Delayed Leeds’ Long-Awaited Trams

West Yorkshire mayor Tracy Brabin insists mass transit ‘will be a tram’ (Credit: Milo Chandler / Alamy) 10 min read3 hr The long wait in Leeds for a tram network was recently extended yet again. Noah Vickers uncovers the real reasons for the latest delay It looked as if the stars were finally in alignment. Leeds had been waiting decades for a tram network of the kind enjoyed in Sheffield, Manchester and Nottingham, and in July 2024 it looked as if one was closer than ever before. West Yorkshire’s Labour mayor, Tracy Brabin, had just won re-election promising to start work on the scheme and her party had now taken office nationally on a mission to “forge ahead” with new infrastructure. To top it off, Leeds now even had local MP Rachel Reeves in post as Chancellor. With £2.1bn committed to it in June 2025, the project’s future looked bright. But just days before Christmas, an announcement was made. Brabin confirmed that following “an independent review” held in September 2025, the …

Voters line up outside a polling station during general elections in Lima, Peru, Sunday, April 12, 2026. Guadalupe Pardo/AP hide caption toggle caption Guadalupe Pardo/AP LIMA, Peru — Peruvian voters will have to wait until at least Monday to learn the outcome of Sunday’s presidential election after the process was mired with logistical issues that even left thousands of people in the country and abroad unable to cast ballots. The problems prompted electoral authorities to allow more than 52,000 residents of Peru’s capital, Lima, to vote on Monday. The extension, announced after vote counting began Sunday evening, also covers Peruvians registered to vote in Orlando, Florida, and Paterson, New Jersey. Authorities initially reported 63,300 people could vote Monday but later revised down the figure. Voting is mandatory for Peruvians from the ages of 18 to 70. Failure to do so comes with a fine of up to $32. A former minister, a comedian and a political heiress are among 35 candidates vying to become Peru’s ninth president in just 10 years. The election comes amid …

Kevin Warsh Fed nomination hearing delayed

Kevin Warsh Fed nomination hearing delayed

Kevin Warsh, Fellow in Economics at the Hoover Institution and lecturer at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, speaks during the Sohn Investment Conference in New York City, U.S., May 8, 2017. Brendan McDermid | Reuters An expected nomination hearing for Federal Reserve chair candidate Kevin Warsh has been delayed, a person familiar with the matter told CNBC on Thursday evening. Warsh had been set to appear before the Senate Banking Committee on April 16. That won’t happen, but the hearing is still expected soon, the person said, requesting anonymity as the details have not been made public by the committee. The committee’s rules require that it give a week’s notice before the hearing is held, and the panel first needs to collect paperwork from the nominee, including financial disclosures. The Banking Committee has yet to receive Warsh’s paperwork, according to three people familiar with the Senate process. The committee has not formally noticed the hearing. The deadline for doing so was Thursday. Punchbowl earlier reported the delay to Warsh’s hearing. Warsh’s finances may be …
