Crunchyroll president on KPop Demon Hunters and the next Solo Leveling

In 2026, the world of anime has never been bigger – with millions of fans falling in love with the vast fantasy worlds defined by the distinct Japanese art style. With a “if you can imagine it, it can be created” attitude, anime throws viewers into a universe where imagination is unstifled and ever-expanding. You can sail the seas as part of a ragtag team of pirates in shows like One Piece, go on an epic adventure to fight back against a dystopian world in Attack on Titan, or become cursed with the soul of an ancient sorcerer in Jujutsu Kaisen. And online platform Crunchyroll has become the go-to destination for fans across the globe to delve into the medium like never before. Boasting over 50,000 episodes of anime, Crunchyroll has become the world’s largest dedicated platform for the art form, expanding to include online manga graphic novels on which many animes are based, as well as games and merchandise. Last year, Solo Leveling – a tale of supernatural monster-hunter Sung Jinwoo across his adventures …

‘KPop Shark Heroes’ Brings ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ to Shark Week

‘KPop Shark Heroes’ Brings ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ to Shark Week

Discovery Channel is getting in on the KPop Demon Hunters craze in a very unique way —  a new Shark Week special starring two of the film’s actors. The special, KPop Shark Heroes, is set to premiere during this year’s Shark Week, scheduled for late July, and is hoping to change minds after recent shark attacks off the Korean peninsula.   While the actual demon hunting gang of K-pop idols are not involved, the special finds host Ken Jeong, who plays Bobby in the animated feature, “determined to reshape the perception of sharks across East Asia and around the globe,” according to a press release. Rei Ami, the singing voice of Zoe in the Oscar-winning film, joins Jeong, as the “Golden” singer is apparently a longtime lover or sharks. In the special, Jeong makes it it his mission to launch a public awareness campaign that “educates, empowers and shifts the narrative” around sharks through the “power of K-pop.” It’s unclear exactly how K-pop plays into the show, but it’s safe to say they’ll be no …

Man Who Invented Roomba Moves Into Household Demon Market

Man Who Invented Roomba Moves Into Household Demon Market

Sign up to see the future, today Can’t-miss innovations from the bleeding edge of science and tech Colin Angle, the inventor of the iconic Roomba automated vacuum, is back with another robot that hangs around the house. This time it’s not a roaming vacuum cleaner, though, but a furry — and eerily lifelike, if not creepy — companion called a “Familiar.” With a name of such supernatural connotations, and with its uncanny appearance, it’s hard not to see it as a demonic mockery of an actual flesh and blood pet, superficially cute as it may be. Naturally, it’s powered by AI. In an interview with The Verge, Angle described the robot as a “physically embodied AI system” that uses an on-device generative AI model to interact with its owner and develop a “distinct personality.” And he made it very clear that the goal of deploying the AI was to foster genuine companions. “The next era of robotics is not just about dexterity or humanoid form — it’s about machines that can build and sustain human …

At Los Angeles kid birthday parties, ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ rule

At Los Angeles kid birthday parties, ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ rule

For her 6th birthday party in January, Amy Tzagournis’ daughter Hazel wanted special guests: the characters from “KPop Demon Hunters.” Six months prior, while Tzagournis was out of town, her daughter and 4-year-old son had become obsessed. “I came back and all of a sudden they knew every word to the songs,” she says with disbelief. “I was like, ‘Where did this come from?’ It was literally out of nowhere.” Parker Apel, 7, pretends to close the VIP entrance for entertainer Simon Mendoza, who is dressed in the style of a Saja Boy from “KPop Demon Hunters.” So Tzagournis, of Redondo Beach, hired Funky Divas & Dudes, one of the many characters-for-hire companies in the Los Angeles area that had started to offer “KPop Demon Hunters”-inspired performers. At her birthday party, Hazel and her friends danced to songs from the movie, including “Golden” and “Soda Pop,” alongside the entertainers. “We’ve pretty much been doing nothing but ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ parties,” Dana Marie Lazzareschi, one of the co-owners of Funky Divas & Dudes, says. “Every party …

Demon Lover Archetype: When Intensity Masquerades as Love

Demon Lover Archetype: When Intensity Masquerades as Love

Some relationships begin with a feeling that is hard to explain but impossible to ignore. Before anything is spoken, something in you recognizes something in them. The pull is immediate. It feels less like a choice and more like a kind of inevitability. People often call this chemistry. Or fate. But psychologically, it may be something else. Not a true beginning, but a return. A reactivation of something old, familiar, and largely unconscious. In the language of Carl Jung, we might understand this through archetypes (Jung, 1968). One of these is what has been described as the Demon Lover, a figure that appears across myth, literature, and inner life. He is not defined by stability or care, but by intensity, absence, and emotional disruption. The Demon Lover does not offer safety. He offers longing. He arrives with a kind of immediacy that bypasses thought. A look. A moment. A charged silence. And then, just as quickly, he withdraws. You become fluent in absence. In waiting. In the space between encounters. The relationship begins to organize …

I Reviewed Every Item From McDonald’s KPop Demon Hunters Meals: Here’s What to Order

I Reviewed Every Item From McDonald’s KPop Demon Hunters Meals: Here’s What to Order

KPop Demon Hunters fans, get to McDonald’s fast. For a limited time, you can nab a meal that might seem like an April Fool’s Day joke, but isn’t. Participating McDonald’s restaurants are offering both the HUNTR/X meal, named for the girl group from Netflix’s Oscar-winning animated film, KPop Demon Hunters, and the Saja Boys Breakfast Meal, named for the movie’s boy band. I beat a path to McDonald’s on Tuesday, the first day the new meals were out, so I could try everything. I mean, yay, holographic photo cards, but I think I would have preferred a KPop Demon Hunters figurine. Or patterned socks, like those that were given out with the Grinch meal. NYT/Screenshot by CNET And the KPop Demon Hunters items are surprisingly pretty good! Be warned: Once word gets around, they might be hard to get. The McDonald’s holiday Grinch Meal sold out quickly at some locations (too bad if you wanted a pair of the adorable Grinch-themed socks that came with it), so don’t wait on this limited-edition menu. Shake up the fries, …

The real reason behind JD Vance’s demon talk

The real reason behind JD Vance’s demon talk

Even for JD Vance, it was a weird moment. Over the weekend, the vice president appeared on the podcast of Benny Johnson, a sycophantic MAGA media figure tied to the conservative advocacy group Turning Point USA. The two discussed the Trump administration’s aggressive immigration crackdown, Medicaid fraud and the SAVE Act, which would undermine Americans’ freedom to vote, and Vance even accused Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., of immigration fraud. But in a blatant attempt to snag the attention former president Barack Obama received for discussing aliens during a recent podcast appearance, the conversation turned to the extraterrestrial and UFOs, which the Yale-educated Vance argued are actually demons. The vice president pretended to pivot from “a longer discussion” of the subject, but then he immediately started pontificating about the culture’s “desire” to classify “celestial beings who fly around” as “aliens.” The Christian interpretation, he argued, should be demons, because “one of the devil’s great tricks is to convince people he never existed.” The clip is worth watching, and not just to marvel again at Vance’s ability to …

Demon face syndrome: The science behind prosopometamorphopsia

Demon face syndrome: The science behind prosopometamorphopsia

Imagine looking at a loved one and seeing their face twist into a demonic, unnatural shape. Their eyes might stretch to the sides of their head, their nose might swell, and deep, unnatural grooves might appear across their cheeks and forehead. This terrifying visual experience belongs to a rare neurological condition known medically as prosopometamorphopsia. In popular media and online discussions, it is sometimes referred to as “demon face syndrome.” People with this condition see human faces as severely distorted, even though their vision for everyday objects remains completely normal. Prosopometamorphopsia is fundamentally different from a hallucination. A hallucination involves seeing something that is not actually present in the physical world. People experiencing these facial distortions are looking at a real person standing in front of them. Their brain simply alters the shape, size, color, or position of the facial features before the image reaches their conscious awareness. The condition is also distinct from face blindness, which scientists call prosopagnosia. People with face blindness cannot recognize who a person is, but the face itself looks …
