I Reviewed Every Item From McDonald’s KPop Demon Hunters Meals: Here’s What to Order

KPop Demon Hunters fans, get to McDonald’s fast. For a limited time, you can nab a meal that might seem like an April Fool’s Day joke, but isn’t. Participating McDonald’s restaurants are offering both the HUNTR/X meal, named for the girl group from Netflix’s Oscar-winning animated film, KPop Demon Hunters, and the Saja Boys Breakfast Meal, named for the movie’s boy band. I beat a path to McDonald’s on Tuesday, the first day the new meals were out, so I could try everything. I mean, yay, holographic photo cards, but I think I would have preferred a KPop Demon Hunters figurine. Or patterned socks, like those that were given out with the Grinch meal. NYT/Screenshot by CNET And the KPop Demon Hunters items are surprisingly pretty good! Be warned: Once word gets around, they might be hard to get. The McDonald’s holiday Grinch Meal sold out quickly at some locations (too bad if you wanted a pair of the adorable Grinch-themed socks that came with it), so don’t wait on this limited-edition menu. Shake up the fries, …

The real reason behind JD Vance’s demon talk

The real reason behind JD Vance’s demon talk

Even for JD Vance, it was a weird moment. Over the weekend, the vice president appeared on the podcast of Benny Johnson, a sycophantic MAGA media figure tied to the conservative advocacy group Turning Point USA. The two discussed the Trump administration’s aggressive immigration crackdown, Medicaid fraud and the SAVE Act, which would undermine Americans’ freedom to vote, and Vance even accused Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., of immigration fraud. But in a blatant attempt to snag the attention former president Barack Obama received for discussing aliens during a recent podcast appearance, the conversation turned to the extraterrestrial and UFOs, which the Yale-educated Vance argued are actually demons. The vice president pretended to pivot from “a longer discussion” of the subject, but then he immediately started pontificating about the culture’s “desire” to classify “celestial beings who fly around” as “aliens.” The Christian interpretation, he argued, should be demons, because “one of the devil’s great tricks is to convince people he never existed.” The clip is worth watching, and not just to marvel again at Vance’s ability to …

Demon face syndrome: The science behind prosopometamorphopsia

Demon face syndrome: The science behind prosopometamorphopsia

Imagine looking at a loved one and seeing their face twist into a demonic, unnatural shape. Their eyes might stretch to the sides of their head, their nose might swell, and deep, unnatural grooves might appear across their cheeks and forehead. This terrifying visual experience belongs to a rare neurological condition known medically as prosopometamorphopsia. In popular media and online discussions, it is sometimes referred to as “demon face syndrome.” People with this condition see human faces as severely distorted, even though their vision for everyday objects remains completely normal. Prosopometamorphopsia is fundamentally different from a hallucination. A hallucination involves seeing something that is not actually present in the physical world. People experiencing these facial distortions are looking at a real person standing in front of them. Their brain simply alters the shape, size, color, or position of the facial features before the image reaches their conscious awareness. The condition is also distinct from face blindness, which scientists call prosopagnosia. People with face blindness cannot recognize who a person is, but the face itself looks …

K-Pop Demon Hunters, BTS, and How Korea Conquered American Culture

K-Pop Demon Hunters, BTS, and How Korea Conquered American Culture

Growing up in Toronto, Maggie Kang felt she needed to conceal her obsession with H.O.T., the mid-1990s idol group whose tightly synchronized choreography, chantable hooks and lurid crimson hair — sometimes topped with ski goggles — helped define the template for modern K-pop. “I had to hide that I liked K-pop,” says Kang, co-writer and co-director of KPop Demon Hunters. “Even my Asian friends thought it was lame. But it was just part of me — it wasn’t escapism, it was identity.” These days, Kang no longer is hiding. On March 15, her hyperkinetic animated Netflix hit — in which a K-pop girl group, Huntrix, juggles global superstardom while slaying soul-eating demons disguised as a rival boy band — made history by winning best animated feature at the Academy Awards. Its self-affirmation anthem, “Golden,” currently being belted by 10-year-olds and their parents from Los Angeles to Osaka, became the first tune by a K-pop act ever to win best original song.  Accepting the award, Kang tearfully apologized that it took so long “for those of …

Netflix plans KPop Demon Hunters global concert tour, source says

Netflix is planning a KPop Demon Hunters world tour, as it looks to capitalise on its most popular movie, a source familiar with the talks said on Wednesday (Mar 18). KPop Demon Hunters won the Oscar for best animated feature on Sunday, capping a record-breaking run after becoming Netflix’s most-watched film ever on its 2025 debut. The movie’s song, Golden, took the Academy Award for best original song. Netflix is negotiating with concert promoters to stage a live show featuring performances of the songs from the film, the source said. Bloomberg News first reported the talks earlier on Wednesday. The parties have discussed a tour that would visit dozens of major cities, featuring shows in arenas with a capacity of 10,000 to 20,000, according to the Bloomberg report. The aim is to perform around the globe next year ahead of the sequel to the animated film. Netflix has yet to choose a promoter but has already been offered tens of millions of dollars in upfront guarantees, the report said. A Netflix spokeswoman declined to comment. …

KPop Demon Hunters Oscar Wins Mark an Historic Victory For Korean Pop Culture

KPop Demon Hunters Oscar Wins Mark an Historic Victory For Korean Pop Culture

If you didn’t previously have a young person to educate you about the luring power of KPop Demon Hunters, their double wins at Oscars 2026 cemented the dominance of Korean pop culture in Hollywood. The Netflix film, which follows two fictional K-pop bands, HUNTR/X and Saja Boys, took home Oscars for best animated feature and best original song on Sunday. During the Conan O’Brien-hosted 98th Academy Awards, the singers who voice HUNTR/X—Ejae, Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami—also performed their winning tune “Golden” before a lively, lit-up crowd. Co-director and writer Maggie Kang and producer Michelle Wong became the first people of South Korean descent to ever win in the animated feature category. They accepted the award with co-director Chris Appelhans. “To all the fans who got us here and for all of those who look like me, sorry that it took us so long to see us in a movie like this,” Kang said of her fellow Korean people. “This is for Korea and for Koreans everywhere.” Meanwhile, Appelhans spoke about the power of storytelling …

Netflix’s ‘Frankenstein’ wins three Oscars, ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ wins two

Netflix’s ‘Frankenstein’ wins three Oscars, ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ wins two

Two Netflix films, “Frankenstein” and “KPop Demon Hunters,” won multiple Academy Awards tonight. Director Guillermo del Toro’s reimagining of “Frankenstein” won for Best Production Design, Best Costume Design, and Best Makeup and Hairstyling, while Netflix’s most-watched movie ever “KPop Demon Hunters” won for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song. In recent years, films produced and distributed by streaming companies have become a steady presence at the Oscars, with “Roma,” “The Power of the Dog,” and “All Quiet on the Western Front” winning major awards. However, the biggest prize seems to remain out of reach for Netflix — Apple’s “CODA,” released near the height of the pandemic, remains the only streaming film to win Best Picture. Host Conan O’Brien even noted the presence of Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos at the beginning of the ceremony, joking, “This is exciting: It’s his first time in a theater!” “Frankenstein” was nominated for nine Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Supporting Actor. Netflix’s “Train Dreams” and Apple’s “F1” (which won for Best Sound) were also nominated Best Picture, but …
