Michael Bay is enlisting for an Operation Epic Fury movie, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. The Universal Pictures film is based on the true story of April’s rescue of two downed American pilots in Iran after their F-15E Strike Eagle was struck down during the United States’ attack on the country. It is based on Mitchell Zuckoff’s forthcoming book about the rescue mission, which arrives via Harper Collins in 2027. Bay will direct and produce with Erwin Stoff and Scott Gardenhour. The filmmaker is known for working with the U.S. military on previous projects, consulting with it on movies such as The Rock, Armageddon, Pearl Harbor, Transformers and 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi. The latter film was based on a book by Zuckoff, the journalist and professor of communications at Boston University. Bay’s movies have grossed more than $10 billion at the global box office. Rick and Morty is taking aim at the big screen. Jacob Hair, who has directed episodes of the long-running Adult Swim series since 2019, is in talks to helm an animated feature version for Warner Bros., The Hollywood Reporter has learned. Plot details have not yet been publicly shared for the film that is in early development. Rick and Morty debuted in 2013, and the Emmy-winning series has ranked as basic cable’s most-watched comedy over the past several seasons. President Curtis, a spinoff series featuring voice actor Keith David in the titular role, is set to premiere soon from Adult Swim. Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland co-created Rick and Morty, which centers on inventor Rick Sanchez and his universe-spanning adventures with teen grandson Morty. In early 2023, Adult Swim cut ties with Roiland following felony domestic abuse charges that were later dismissed. Sam Raimi has settled on his next directing effort. As his follow-up to Send Help, his twisty survival thriller released by 20th Century/Disney earlier this year, Raimi will direct Magic, Lionsgate’s remake of the 1978 cult horror classic that featured Anthony Hopkins as a mentally unstable ventriloquist. Raimi was already on board as producing the remake, having set it at the company last year. Also producing are Roy Lee as well as Chris Hammond and Tim Sullivan, the latter two who long championed the project and guided its development by tracking down the original rights. Mark Swift and Damian Shannon, who wrote Send Help for Raimi and who previously penned Freddy vs. Jason and the remake of Friday the 13th, wrote the script for Magic. Magic starred Hopkins as Corky, a magician who reaches fame alongside his ventriloquist’s dummy, the obnoxious and wisecracking Fats.
