Trump loses it over Iran peace deal failure and orders Navy to ‘shoot and kill’ over Hormuz Strait: ‘CRAZY!’

Trump loses it over Iran peace deal failure and orders Navy to ‘shoot and kill’ over Hormuz Strait: ‘CRAZY!’

President Donald Trump in a pair of raging Truth Social posts Thursday announced he has ordered American naval forces to open fire on any Iranian vessel believed to be laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz, something he previously claimed was not happening. Writing on Truth Social, Trump said he had ordered the U.S. Navy to “shoot and kill any boat, small boats though they may be … that is putting mines in the waters of the Strait of Hormuz.” “There is to be no hesitation,” the president added. Trump also claimed American minesweepers are currently clearing the narrow waterway “right now” and said he was ordering the minesweeping efforts to “continue … at a tripled up level.” The president’s threat against any Iranian mine-laying vessels comes over a month after he claimed to have destroyed most of Iran’s mining capacity while simultaneously denying that Iran was placing any mines in the strait, a key transit point for roughly a fifth of the world’s oil supply each year. It’s unclear to what extent U.S. forces …

’90s Alt-Rockers Dissect Their 7th Record

’90s Alt-Rockers Dissect Their 7th Record

I distinctly remember the day in 1996 when KROQ DJ Carson Daly first introduced me to Failure. I recall just as clearly the moment the following year when Daly, as MTV’s newest VJ, reported their demise. It didn’t make sense that an emerging genre-bending rock band could call it quits after tapping into something otherworldly on their third studio record, Fantastic Planet (1996). The Los Angeles-based group consisting primarily of vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Ken Andrews, multi-instrumentalist Greg Edwards and drummer Kellii Scott may have had their champions in the mainstream, but they were still a word-of-mouth band for the most part, so I had no way of knowing in the days of dial-up internet that heroin had wreaked havoc on yet another one of my favorite bands. I would still be reminded of Failure in the subsequent years. My own musical pursuits led me to a week of sessions at L.A.’s Paramount Recording Studios in 2003. That’s when A Perfect Circle’s cover of Failure’s hypnotic ballad, “The Nurse Who Loved Me,” played in the musician-filled front lobby, …

Salesforce’s Agentforce Vibes 2.0 targets a hidden failure: context overload in AI agents

Salesforce’s Agentforce Vibes 2.0 targets a hidden failure: context overload in AI agents

When startup fundraising platform VentureCrowd began deploying AI coding agents, they saw the same gains as other enterprises: they cut the front-end development cycle by 90% in some projects. However, it didn’t come easy or without a lot of trial and error.  VentureCrowd’s first challenge revolved around data and context quality, since Diego Mogollon, chief product officer at VentureCrowd, told VentureBeat that “agents reason against whatever data they can access at runtime” and would then be confidently “wrong” because they’re only basing their knowledge on the context given to them. Their other roadblock, like many others, was messy data and unclear processes. Similar to context, Mogollon said coding agents would amplify bad data, so the company had to build a well-structured codebase first.   “The challenges are rarely about the coding agents themselves; they are about everything around them,” said Mogollon. “It’s a context problem disguised as an AI problem, and it is the number one failure mode I see across agentic implementations.” Mogollon said VentureCrowd encountered several roadblocks in overhauling its software development.  VentureCrowd’s experience …

The X Files’ David Duchovny on poetry, failure and Easter eggs in his work: ‘I’m not writing Taylor Swift songs’ — exclusive

At 65, David Duchovny is still finding new ways to discover the truth out there – including, perhaps surprisingly to some, through poetry. The X-Files star and father-of-two has an Ivy League degree and an unfinished PhD waiting in the wings, and in 2025, he released his first collection of poetry; a new paperback version will include newer works written over the last six months.  Much of the collection focuses on his own reflections of an at-times strained relationship with his father, famous writer and publicist Amram Ducovny; Amram’s death in 2002; and fatherhood. But at a time when media and literature are pored over by fans looking for Easter Eggs, David says that “writing is not a game” he wants to play. © Mat Hayward“I’m not writing Taylor Swift songs where you’re supposed to connect the dots” “I’m not writing Taylor Swift songs where you’re supposed to connect the dots,” he laughs. “I think if the poem is worth its salt, it’s going to resonate with the reader. The great preponderance of us are going …

Politics Home | PM Says It Is “Staggering” And “Unforgiveable” He Wasn’t Told About Mandelson Vetting Failure

(Alamy UK) 2 min read3 hr Keir Starmer has said he is “absolutely furious” that he wasn’t told that Lord Mandelson failed security vetting before being appointed US ambassador. The Prime Minister said on Friday that it was “staggering” and “unforgivable”. Starmer’s position is coming under renewed pressure after The Guardian revealed on Thursday that Mandelson had been appointed UK ambassador to the US in 2024 despite failing his security vetting.  No 10 said that the Foreign Office was responsible for the vetting process and overturned the failed security vetting without telling the Prime Minister or any other minister. Last night, the most senior civil servant in the Foreign Office, Olly Robbins, was sacked after he was understood to have lost the confidence of both Starmer and Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper.  While Robbins has not yet spoken publicly about the move, Foreign Affairs Committee Chair, Labour MP Emily Thornberry, has requested that the former senior official appear before the select committee on Tuesday to give evidence.  Downing Street added that Starmer had been first made aware of Mandelson’s failed vetting earlier …
