Huawei’s new extra-wide foldable phone was revealed on Monday, and it’s already drawing comparisons to the next big thing from Apple. Little is known about the Pura X Max, teased on China’s Weibo social network, but the internet is buzzing over its uncommon proportions, wide aspect ratio and similarities with the rumored iPhone Fold expected to arrive later this year.  There are plenty of different ways to fold a phone, and tech companies have been experimenting with various configurations over the last few years. There are clamshell-style devices, like the Motorola Razr and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7, which fold like OG flip phones, shrinking down into a pocketable square. Then came taller, book-style phones that unfold to reveal larger, tablet-size displays. These days, you can even find trifold phones with two hinges. However you fold it, most foldables either start or end with the familiar candybar shape as their base. Step aside, Apple and Samsung; it’s China’s Huawei that currently rules the unusually-wide-foldable-phones niche. On Monday, the company published a teaser video of its upcoming Huawei Pura X Max foldable phone. Apple Inc.’s first foldable phone is on track to arrive during the company’s normal iPhone launch period later this year, people with knowledge of the matter said, rebutting concerns about major manufacturing snags. The company is scheduled to introduce the foldable model in September alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the plans haven’t been announced. Apple’s phones typically hit store shelves the week after they’re unveiled. A report from Nikkei Asia had fueled concerns about a delay on Tuesday. Apple shares fell as much as 5.1% after the news outlet said that the company was facing challenges in the engineering test phase of the phone.
