The Welsh actor, 59, known for her iconic role as Nessa Jenkins, expressed her unequivocal disinterest in the popular BBC dancing competition. Speaking on The Jonathan Ross Show, Jones acknowledged the impressive feats of the show’s contestants but maintained her stance. “I’ve been and watched Strictly and it is amazing what people do,” she said. “But it is absolutely not for me. They would have to pay me an absolutely ridiculous amount of money – there isn’t a figure.” Jones also revealed she had been approached for Celebrity Traitors, another hit BBC reality game show. Despite her fondness for the programme, she prefers to enjoy it from the comfort of her own home. …

In His Memoir, Gavin Newsom Sets Out to Reconcile “the Split Personality” of His Life Spent Growing Up Alongside the Gettys

In His Memoir, Gavin Newsom Sets Out to Reconcile “the Split Personality” of His Life Spent Growing Up Alongside the Gettys

Gavin Newsom was seven years old when he became cognizant of his other family. Just before Christmas, when his father, William “Bill” A. Newsom III, was taking him and his sister to their favorite toy store in San Francisco, Bill told them they had to pick someone up first. “Now, whatever you guys do or say, all I’m asking is that you don’t mention Paul’s missing ear,” Bill instructed the kids before a lanky, red-haired 17-year-old climbed into the car. The world’s most famous kidnapping victim, Paul Getty III, was Bill’s godson. It took Gavin some time to figure out the complicated Getty family tree. It descends from oil baron J. Paul Getty; with his five wives, he had five sons, including Paul Jr. (Paul III’s father) and Gordon—two brothers whom Bill counted as his closest friends since childhood. In turn, Gavin became like a son to Gordon and his wife, Ann—in addition to their boys, Peter, Andrew, John, and Billy. All five were tall and good-looking, so they were almost indistinguishable around town and …

Gavin Newsom Compares Israel to “Apartheid State”

Gavin Newsom Compares Israel to “Apartheid State”

California Governor Gavin Newsom compared Israel to an “apartheid state” and questioned future U.S. military support for the country. Speaking on stage at an event to promote his new memoir, Young Man in a Hurry: A Memoir of Discovery, Newsom, who is widely expected to enter the 2028 presidential race, was asked by Pod Save America host Jon Favreau about the U.S.-Israel relationship and whether it should be reconsidered. “It breaks my heart, because the current leadership in Israel is walking us down the path where I don’t think you have a choice about that consideration,” Newsom said about the U.S. potentially rethinking its support for Israel. Q: Do you think, looking down the road, that the United States should consider maybe, you know, rethinking our military support for Israel? California Gov. Gavin Newsom Predicts Trump Era Will ‘De Facto End’

Gavin Newsom Predicts Trump Era Will ‘De Facto End’

California Governor Gavin Newsom made a stark prediction about what he thinks the fate of Donald Trump’s presidency will be after the 2026 midterms. Speaking with MS NOW’s “The Briefing with Jen Psaki,” Newsom laid into the president after Psaki mentioned there has recently been “a lot of outrage” among Trump’s MAGA base over his administration’s handling of the Epstein files as well as Trump “doubling down on tariffs.” Asking Newsom if he thinks anything has “shifted” since Trump has faced criticism from his own supporters, the governor responded by declaring that Trump’s presidency will “de facto end” when the Democratic Party wins elections in November. “Even if [Trump and his supporters] fell out, he’s the president of the United States for the next three years. Good news, he’s temporary. That’s just three years. And the presidency as we know it will de facto end this November when we get the gavel back and Speaker [Hakeem] Jeffries becomes the next speaker, as long as we remain vigilant,” the Democratic governor told Psaki. Newsom went on …

Gavin Newsom’s Father Issues – The Atlantic

Gavin Newsom’s Father Issues – The Atlantic

The lives of recent U.S. presidents are dominated by absent or distant fathers. Bill Clinton lost his before birth, and then grew up with an alcoholic stepfather who loved him but lacked self-control. George W. Bush grew up in H.W.’s shadow—one so strong that his brother Jeb tried to run for president, too. Barack Obama writes of being haunted by a father who had passed on nothing but his skin color, his imagined voice “untainted, inspiring, rebuking, granting or withholding approval.” Fred Trump was cold and controlling, and vicious to Donald’s older brother, Freddy, who did not want to follow him into real estate. Inevitably, you wonder: Did these men look to voters to give them what their own father could not? Compared with some on this roll call, Gavin Newsom’s father was practically a saint. But the California governor’s new memoir, Young Man in a Hurry—a book that doubles as table stakes for his presidential run—is dominated by Bill Newsom’s emotional distance. He leaves Gavin’s mother, Tessa Menzies, in San Francisco when her two …

Where River Ryan and Gavin Stone figure in Dodgers’ pitching plans

Where River Ryan and Gavin Stone figure in Dodgers’ pitching plans

PHOENIX — In the backfields of Camelback Ranch, the Dodgers’ River Ryan and Blake Snell stayed behind to field grounders and practice throws to second. After a few dropped balls by Ryan during his transition, the two-time Cy Young winner talked it over at the mound with the young pitcher. It was a typical scene you’d see in the early days of spring training, the extra work to dial in fundamentals. But for the 27-year-old Ryan, it’s part of the journey in his return from Tommy John surgery. Ryan got a taste of the majors in July 2024, making his debut against the San Francisco Giants with 5 ⅓ innings and giving up one unearned run. He showed promise with his high-velocity fastball and swing-and-miss slider/curveball combination. But during his fourth start on Aug. 10 against the Pittsburgh Pirates, he exited the game in the fifth inning with what was diagnosed as a torn UCL — his season done after pitching 20 ⅓ innings with 18 strikeouts and a 1.33 ERA. Eighteen months later, Ryan’s goals are …

Did Gavin Newsom Witness His Mother’s Murder?

Did Gavin Newsom Witness His Mother’s Murder?

This republished article first appeared in the National Review California Governor, Gavin Newsom, is clearly running for president and — surprise, surprise — has a new memoir coming out. In an interview about the book, he recounted attending his mother’s hastened death. From the Washington Post story: It was the spring of 2002 when Gavin Newsom’s mother, Tessa, dying of cancer, stunned him with a voicemail. If he wanted to see her again, she told him, it would need to be before the following Thursday, when she planned to end her life. Newsom, then a 34-year-old San Francisco supervisor, did not try to dissuade her, he recounted in an interview with The Washington Post. The fast-rising politician was racked with guilt from being distant and busy as she dealt with the unbearable pain of the breast cancer spreading through her body. Newsom’s account of his mother’s death at the age of 55 by assisted suicide, and his feelings of grief and remorse toward a woman with whom he had a loving but complex relationship, is one of the …

Gavin Newsom is much worse than you think

Gavin Newsom is much worse than you think

Gavin Newsom made headlines this winter by vowing to defeat a proposal for a one-time 5% tax on billionaires in the state. The move was a notable one for the California governor, whom many national polls now rank as the frontrunner for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2028; aligning with the ultra-wealthy is not auspicious for wooing the party’s voters. Last year, a Reuters-Ipsos poll reported that a whopping 86% of Democrats said “changing the federal tax code so wealthy Americans and large corporations pay more in taxes should be a priority.” Newsom has drawn widespread praise for waging an aggressive war of words against Donald Trump. Since at least June 2025, when the president deployed National Guard troops and Marines to quell protests in Los Angeles against his mass deportation campaign, Newsom and his team have successfully tapped into the need that many rank-and-file Democrats have for adopting a confrontational approach to Trump and his policies. But few people outside of California know much about the governor’s actual record — and many Democratic voters …
