Lume Cube Edge Light Go Review (2026): Versatile, Portable

Lume Cube Edge Light Go Review (2026): Versatile, Portable

The base of the lamp has two slider buttons. One toggle adjusts the warmth, from cold white light all the way to red. One adjusts the intensity, from ultra-bright down to a glareless glow. Hard taps on each button skip ahead, while holding the toggle down on one side or another adjusts the light settings quite slowly—slowly enough I at first sometimes question whether it’s happening. The maximum brightness is 1,000 lumens—the approximate intensity of a 75-watt incandescent bulb. At this brightness, the battery lasts about five hours. At a lower intensity, this can extend to as long as a dozen hours. Red Shift Photograph: Matthew Korfhage There’s an added feature I have come to appreciate at night, which is the red-light mode. There’s little evidence that blue light from your little smartphone is keeping you awake at night. But numerous studies do show that blue light wavelengths can affect melatonin levels and thus your body’s circadian rhythm, while red light doesn’t do this. Red light therapy is, of course, the province of TikTok as …

The 11 Best Fans to Buy Before It Gets Hot Again (2026)

The 11 Best Fans to Buy Before It Gets Hot Again (2026)

Vornado Box Fan Model 80X for $100: While most people who need a box fan are, frankly, going to run out to Walmart or Home Depot and grab one for 20 bucks, you should be aware that there exists a Rolls-Royce of box fans. “It has 99 speeds,” the brand’s rep told me when it came out. “Yeah, right,” I thought. But, sure enough, this thing actually has 99 speeds, accessible via up and down buttons. I have no idea under what circumstances one might need this many speeds, but there they are. It’s also got a kickstand to reduce wobbling, a digital display, and a 1-to-12-hour timer. Plus, the silver-and-black casing looks good—like you meant to have it in your house, not a remnant from that one summer your AC broke during a heat wave. Photograph: Kat Merck Shark TurboBlade (Bladeless) for $250: Though this 2025 blade-less model is billed as a tower fan, it doesn’t look or act like any tower fan I’ve ever seen. It evokes a windmill more than it does …

Woman barred from Edinburgh flight after ‘distressing’ conversation at passport desk

Woman barred from Edinburgh flight after ‘distressing’ conversation at passport desk

A woman was stranded in Dusseldorf after her return flight to Edinburgh was blocked over a Home Office admin error. Liza Tobay was told her settled status had been “red flagged” when she tried to connect in Munich, in Germany, on a departing flight back to the capital. Liza, a German woman, was separated from her three-year-old daughter in Edinburgh as a result. The German national had taken her eldest child, aged six, to visit relatives over Easter. While trying to connect in Germany, Liza was informed at the passport control desk her settled status had been “red flagged”, reports Birmingham Live. Speaking to the Guardian, Liza: “I started to panic and my son started to cry. “It is the first time he’s been away for five days without his dad, so he’s been homesick already and could sense something wasn’t right.” Liza said she was unable to sleep or eat due to the ordeal and worried about being away from her young daughter for the first time. She told Edinburgh Live: “I am now …

12 Best Standing Desks of 2026, Tested and Reviewed

Other Standing Desks to Consider Photograph: Nicole Kinning Luxor Compact Electric Standing Desk for $200: The Luxor is a no-nonsense standing desk that does exactly what you expect and takes up minimal space. It’s perfect for students, small apartments, and anyone who needs a compact, budget-friendly setup. At 23.5 inches deep, the tabletop is shallow enough to fit into tight corners or shared spaces. The electric lift moves steadily at an inch per second, whisper-quiet, and the 154-pound weight capacity can handle a laptop, monitor, and a few textbooks with no sweat. The lift mechanism is exposed underneath, so you’ll want to leave some legroom when at sitting height. —Nicole Kinning Simple Height Adjustable Desk for $850: The Simple Height Adjustable Desk lives up to its name. Assembly is straightforward and cable routing is tidy thanks to an integrated channel that keeps everything corralled. The T-shaped legs slide into a bracket instead of screwing or locking into place, which feels a little ambiguous, but once it’s upright, the desk is solid and sturdy. In practice, …

Best Laptop Stands (2026): After Testing 25+ Models, These 5 Stand Out

Best Laptop Stands (2026): After Testing 25+ Models, These 5 Stand Out

What to Look for in a Laptop Stand AccordionItemContainerButton When shopping for a laptop stand, think about how and where you’ll use it, and how much you’re willing to spend. Here’s what you need to consider: Do you need portability? If you commute or like to work from a coffee shop, opt for a foldable laptop stand that fits in your bag. Some models even double as cases, like Moft’s Carry Sleeve. Material preferences? Laptop stands come in a variety of materials—aluminum, steel, plastic, wood, etc. Aluminum models are generally lightweight and excellent for heat dissipation. Steel stands are sturdier but heavier, and plastic tends to be more affordable but also wobblier. If aesthetics matter, some wooden models like Grovemade’s Walnut Stand or Oakywood Laptop Stand add a bit more warmth and polish to your space. How adjustable? Everyone’s workspace is different, and everybody is different, so most people benefit from an adjustable stand that lets you tweak your setup. If you’re using a sit-stand desk, you’ll want a stand that accommodates both modes. Some …

The Best Office Chair Is Cheaper Than We’ve Seen Before

The Best Office Chair Is $50 Cheaper Than We’ve Seen Before

We’ve professionally sat in a lot of office chairs, and the Branch Ergonomic Chair Pro has held the top spot in our office chair buying guide ever since we first tested it. It’s easy to spend a lot on an office chair, but this one packs in plenty of features for a relatively modest price. We like it at full price, and we’ve shared deal stories when it has gone on sale for $450 in the past. Right now, though, it’s down to $400 thanks to the Amazon Spring Sale. That’s $50 cheaper than we’ve seen it before, and so of course, we had to tell you. Photograph: Julian Chokkattu Branch Ergonomic Chair Pro Many of the products and gadgets that we recommend are nice to have, but not necessary. Headphones are cool, but you might not need an upgrade. A fancy smart bird feeder is neat, but not crucial. But working from an inefficient, ergonomically poor office setup can wreak havoc on your body. It’s actually bad for you. If you’re sitting at a …

Mahmood to deport thousands of migrants before they can appeal

Mahmood to deport thousands of migrants before they can appeal

Shabana Mahmood will deport thousands of foreign criminals and failed asylum seekers before they can use human rights laws to appeal and block their removal. The Home Secretary is to use laws drawn up by Sir Tony Blair’s Labour government to remove them as soon as their asylum claims are rejected so that they can only appeal once they are back in their home countries. Ministers have told The Telegraph they plan to ramp up the deportations in an attempt to reduce a record backlog of more than 100,000 appeals by rejected asylum seekers. Many of them are housed in hotels at a cost of millions of pounds to taxpayers. Officials have identified 25 “safe” countries, including India, Brazil, Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Albania and Ukraine to which they can immediately deport the failed asylum seekers and criminals before they lodge appeals. The tough approach comes as Ms Mahmood seeks to contain a threatened rebellion by dozens of Labour MPs opposed to her crackdown that will force legal migrants and refugees to wait longer before they …

If Keir Starmer wants to show his mettle, he should tell Rayner where to get off

If Keir Starmer wants to show his mettle, he should tell Rayner where to get off

Now it turns out the Government, viz, the Home Secretary, Shabana Mahmood, may be listening to this nitwit, and watering down her proposals. This is presumably on the basis that Andy Burnham, the Manchester mayor who might actually have posed a leadership risk to the PM, says that “we should always listen to Angela”. Look, this is a man who is sounding out potential allies for his own putative bid; don’t pay attention to him. Yet the Government has let it be known, in characteristically contradictory briefings, that it may do an about-turn on lengthening the period of residence in the UK prior to a citizenship application. So, it may not apply to people already here. Yet it is the 1.7 million people already here who are next in line to apply under the old rules who (whatever their individual merits) are precisely the problem. Ange could take a bow for increasing the population of the country by more than the size of Birmingham. Source link

Humanscale’s New K Lounge Chair Is the Ultimate Home Office Workstation

Humanscale’s New $15K Lounge Chair Is the Ultimate Home Office Workstation

The chair starts at $8,995, but that doesn’t include the side table or ottoman. Add those and it costs $10,995. The model pictured above uses Alpaca wool fabric and brings the cost up to $14,995. (There are more than 300 fabrics and colors to choose from, and the swiveling table comes in various woodgrains.) The Herman Miller Eames, of which the Diffrient Lounge also takes inspiration, costs roughly $8,500 today, depending on which leather you choose. “The Eames is obviously an iconic design—it’s timeless, it’s beautiful—but it’s not something you can work comfortably in for a long time,” Silva says. Levers on the edges of the armrest let you mechanically adjust the recline of the backrest and headrest. Photograph: Julian Chokkattu Don’t let the Lounge in the name fool you. Silva assures me that every chair the company designs is built with ergonomic comfort in mind, with the adjustable work surface and headrest allowing for different postures. While traditional lounge chairs focus on style, Silva says the Lounge prioritizes comfort. In my brief time on …
