A man was buried alive after a trench collapsed on him while he worked on a construction site. Gheorghita Arsene, 33, was working in Banstead, Surrey, in 2020, when a trench collapsed and covered him in soil. His mother, Ienuta, said that Geo phoned her earlier in the day, saying he was afraid that the ditch – which was 10ft deep – would cave in. When he was clearing soil, one of the walls collapsed. A colleague ran for help while others tried to dig him out. Fire and ambulance crews were called, but efforts to revive Geo were hindered by the weight of the soil and difficulties in digging him out. Inspectors found the trench did not have any supports and excavated soil had been deposited unsafely close to it. Now, two companies have been found guilty under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 following a three-month trial. A Russian propagandist and top ally of Vladimir Putin has issued a horrifying threat to America, warning of nuclear strikes. TV and radio presenter Vladimir Solovyov reacted to a video of US Senator John Kennedy saying the US must “choke” the Russian President “to death”. Mr Kennedy told NBC News on Sunday: “We got Putin down. We’re choking him to death. We’re choking him. We’ve got to choke him to death. That’s what he understands. I’m not putting down any of the talk, and I think talk is good and it can be helpful. Emergency crews raced to the site of the crash in Melbourne, which took place shortly before 4pm on Tuesday, September 8. A woman and seven children were travelling in the car when it overturned. A seven-year-old girl died at the scene. An 11-year-old boy was airlifted to hospital with critical injuries. He passed away overnight. The other five children were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while the driver, a 34-year-old woman, was taken to hospital for observation. Air ambulance teams, intensive care and advanced life paramedics stayed at the location throughout Tuesday afternoon. Anyone with information or footage has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers. The Venice Film Festival has a new guilty pleasure. The hometown crowd went wild Monday night for the world premiere of The Spiral, a campy, fun Italian horror thriller from director Paolo Strippoli (The Holy Boy, A Classic Horror Story). Jasmine Trinca (Saint Laurent, The Caiman) stars as Anna, a controlling mother who makes a deal with the devil, in the form of a trench coat-wearing, chain-smoking Valeria Bruni Tedeschi, to save her daughter Alice (Romana Maggiora Vergano) after a gruesome accident. But the agreement sets off a, you guessed it, spiral of macabre events that will end up tearing the family apart. Adriano Giannini plays Anna’s wealthy alpha-male businessman husband, Walter. Andrea Genovese plays their son Tobia. Residents have been evacuated after a fire broke out in a Turkish city. A fire broke out in a forest in the city of Antalya, and it’s spreading rapidly, threatening residential areas. At least one house was completely burned down, according to local reports. The fire broke out in the Karaöz neighbourhood in the city’s Aksu district for reasons which are yet to be determined. A total of 45 fire trucks and 275 firefighters are at the scene, being supported by nine helicopters and three planes. A statement from the Regional Forestry Directorate said: “Our teams are intervening from the air and the ground in the spot fires caused by flammable materials spreading due to the energy of the main fire.” Turkish media outlet Cumhuriyet said residents built barricades to prevent the fire from reaching their homes. Police have launched an investigation following the death of a three-month-old baby girl. Emergency services responded to a report of a child in cardiac arrest at about 8.45am on Saturday, September 5. Among the crews sent to land off Strawberry Lane in Great Wyrley was a Midlands Air Ambulance. Despite their best efforts, the girl was sadly pronounced dead by paramedics a short time later, Staffordshire Police said. Officers were called to the scene by colleagues from the Midlands Ambulance Service. Staffordshire Police remained in the area on September 6 to carry out enquiries and reassure the local community. A girl was abducted and raped during a horrifying three-day campaign of abuse. A man has been sentenced to life behind bars after being convicted of attacking the 14-year-old victim. The girl first met the attacker, named Jagbir, at a market where she gave him her mobile phone number. He then called her on the night of January 16, 2022, and asked for her address. Although the victim initially refused, Jagbir threatened her and she eventually revealed where she lived. The attacker then abducted her from her home before driving her to a property nearby where he held her for three days. A court heard how the victim was raped before police arrested Jagbir. As reported by The Tribune, the girl was kidnapped and raped in the district of Hisar, located in the Indian state of Haryana. After being abducted by Jagbir, her parents reported her missing and an urgent police investigation was launched. When Danielle Gillam-Kirton’s parents, Pete and Fran Gillam, were killed in July’s Spanish wildfires, she felt her nightmare could get no worse. The much-loved couple had built their home in Bédar in Almería after retirement, becoming part of a tight-knit community. Fran, a former headteacher, loved to organise quiz nights to raise money for the local school and the couple enjoyed playing padel at a nearby sports club.
