Venice Premiere for Italian Horror ‘The Spiral’

Venice Premiere for Italian Horror ‘The Spiral’

The Venice Film Festival has a new guilty pleasure. The hometown crowd went wild Monday night for the world premiere of The Spiral, a campy, fun Italian horror thriller from director Paolo Strippoli (The Holy Boy, A Classic Horror Story). Jasmine Trinca (Saint Laurent, The Caiman) stars as Anna, a controlling mother who makes a deal with the devil, in the form of a trench coat-wearing, chain-smoking Valeria Bruni Tedeschi, to save her daughter Alice (Romana Maggiora Vergano) after a gruesome accident. But the agreement sets off a, you guessed it, spiral of macabre events that will end up tearing the family apart. Adriano Giannini plays Anna’s wealthy alpha-male businessman husband, Walter. Andrea Genovese plays their son Tobia. The twisty genre film, which dips into Grand Guignol territory, with plenty of OTT performances — led by Tedeschi’s glorious turn — may be an outsider for the Golden Lion, but it definitely played for the Venice audience, which gave it a warm and enthusiastic standing ovation, with the director and cast coaxing the crowd to keep …

Inside the horror influences of Shaun the Sheep film The Beast of Mossy Bottom

Inside the horror influences of Shaun the Sheep film The Beast of Mossy Bottom

This article first appeared in Radio Times magazine. In an office reception in an unassuming business park in Bristol, there’s an Oscar on display. Other rooms contain multiple Emmys and Baftas. It’s here in Aardman Animations’ secondary studio space, which is located just down the road from their main headquarters, where the third and largest stop-motion Shaun the Sheep film yet has been made. The Beast of Mossy Bottom has 40 units, or sets, double that of a regular Shaun caper. In the company’s 50th year, why not go big? Shaun the Sheep made his debut on Christmas Eve 1995 in Nick Park’s Wallace and Gromit short film A Close Shave. His cheeky charm and mischievous antics earned him his own series in 2007. “We had to invent a whole world for him, and a whole different look for him,” says animation director Claire Rolls, who worked on the first series of Shaun the Sheep and was part of the early conversations about how he should walk and look. “We have refined him over the …

Horror as girl, 14, abducted and raped in three-day kidnapping ordeal | World | News

A girl was abducted and raped during a horrifying three-day campaign of abuse. A man has been sentenced to life behind bars after being convicted of attacking the 14-year-old victim. The girl first met the attacker, named Jagbir, at a market where she gave him her mobile phone number. He then called her on the night of January 16, 2022, and asked for her address. Although the victim initially refused, Jagbir threatened her and she eventually revealed where she lived. The attacker then abducted her from her home before driving her to a property nearby where he held her for three days. A court heard how the victim was raped before police arrested Jagbir. As reported by The Tribune, the girl was kidnapped and raped in the district of Hisar, located in the Indian state of Haryana. After being abducted by Jagbir, her parents reported her missing and an urgent police investigation was launched. However, the attacker phoned the girl’s mother and threatened her, telling her that the girl was with him. The family passed …

‘Then who or what did we cremate?’ Daughter’s horror at finding bones in British wildfire victims’ car | UK news

When Danielle Gillam-Kirton’s parents, Pete and Fran Gillam, were killed in July’s Spanish wildfires, she felt her nightmare could get no worse. The much-loved couple had built their home in Bédar in Almería after retirement, becoming part of a tight-knit community. Fran, a former headteacher, loved to organise quiz nights to raise money for the local school and the couple enjoyed playing padel at a nearby sports club. Spanish police told Gillam-Kirton that the vehicle in which her parents died had been “inspected meticulously” and no possessions had been found. But Gillam-Kirton, an assistant headteacher from Nottinghamshire, was sure her parents must have been wearing their wedding rings when they died. She was invited to search the vehicle herself, which was parked in a police compound in Mojácar. “You won’t find anything,” she was told. Fran Gillam with her daughter Danielle Gillam-Kirton. “I thought I was in hell”: Backpacker breaks silence on 12 horror days | World | News

A German backpacker Carolina Wilga who cheated death by surviving a horror 12-days lost in the Outback has revealed that – while delerious from a lack of water and food – she wondered if she had already died and was in hell. She had not. Instead, she was lost wandering the Australian outback in 2025 after she lost control of her car during a solo road trip through Western Australia. Wilga, now 27, is now a seemingly healthy and happy person. But there are still scars left from her doomed desert wanderings that can’t be seen. The then-German backpacker still does not remember the entirety of her horror near-fortnight in hell. She does remember seeing oncoming twin lights crossing over to her side of the road – a car – which caused her to panic and thus triggered a series of unfortunate and near-deadly events. “I got such a weird gut feeling and a crazy feeling of danger [as the car approached],” she said. “I turned the steering wheel into a fence. It was an …

Teacher Vicki Williams told the court she feared she would die (Image: School) A schoolboy who stabbed a teacher in the head after asking her to check his homework has been sentenced to four-and-a-half years in youth detention. The 16-year-old attacked history teacher Vicki Williams at Milford Haven Comprehensive School in Pembrokeshire in February, Swansea Crown Court heard. The defendant, who was 15 at the time, was found guilty of wounding with intent after being acquitted by a jury of attempted murder. Passing sentence, Judge Paul Thomas KC said it was “pure luck” Mrs Williams had not been seriously injured or worse. Milford Haven Comprehensive School (Image: Milford Haven Comprehensive School,) “I don’t know why you attacked Mrs Williams with that knife, you never told anybody why you did it,” the judge said. “I think it may have been that in some way she had upset you, but I don’t know for certain why. “What I do know for certain is that you took a knife that day to school because you wanted to really …
