Counter terrorism police are leading an investigation into an arson attack on a building that used to belong to a Jewish charity. Officers were called to the incident at the former site of Jewish Futures in Hendon, northwest London at 10.31pm on Friday. Despite having moved from the site, on Hendon Way, signage in the front window still bears the charity’s name. The Metropolitan Police has said the incident is not being treated as terrorism and officers are keeping an open mind about the motive. The London Fire Brigade also attended the scene. “A man approached a row of shops with a plastic bag containing what was later found to be three bottles containing fluid,” the Met said. He placed the bag next to the building and lit the items in the bag. The bottles failed to fully ignite and the man fled the scene, the force added. There were no injuries and only minor …

Phil Rosenberg, the president of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, said Nazism ”will never be allowed to pay” after the American rapper, who has used Nazi imagery and antisemitic language, was blocked from headlining Wireless festival in July. West had previously released a song called Heil Hitler and sold swastika T-shirts. He later apologised and blamed his bipolar disorder. “Nazism does not pay. It will not pay, and it will never be allowed to pay,” Mr Rosenberg said on Monday evening at the Yom HaShoah event, marking the Jewish day of remembrance for the Holocaust. “There are also those in our own time, well known public figures, including Kanye West, who have openly described themselves as Nazis and sought to glorify …
NEW YORK (RNS) — Hundreds of protesters gathered at Union Square in Manhattan on Monday afternoon (April 6) for a Passover Seder to protest the Trump administration’s immigration policies and corporations working with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The demonstration, organized by Jews for Racial & Economic Justice, ended in front of the nearby headquarters of the technological giant Palantir. An ICE contractor since 2011, Palantir has a $30 million contract with the agency for ImmigrationOS, a platform tracking self-deportations and visa overstays. As hundreds of protesters chanted “Shut down Palantir” and “Let my people go” outside of the building, a dozen held a sit-in in the lobby. The group, all wearing T-shirts reading “Abolish ICE,” gathered around a black banner that read “ICE kidnaps, Palantir profits. Let my people go.” Shortly after the protesters arrived in front of the headquarters, the New York Police Department entered the building and arrested about 15 protesters, according to JFREJ. Rabbi Abby Stein, formerly part-time rabbi of Brooklyn’s progressive Kolot Chayeinu congregation, was among the protesters who held …

Amid growing controversy over Kanye West headlining London’s Wireless Festival, the rapper says he “would be grateful” to meet members of the Jewish community in the U.K. who have criticized his inclusion in one of the country’s biggest music events despite West’s history of antisemitic statements. In a statement to the BBC, the rapper said: “To Those I’ve Hurt: I’ve been following the conversation around Wireless and want to address it directly. My only goal is to come to London and present a show of change, bringing unity, peace, and love through my music.” West, the BBC reported, offered to meet members of the community in person “to listen”, adding: “I know words aren’t enough – I’ll have to show change through my actions. If you’re open, I’m here. With Love, Ye, formerly known as Kanye West.” West’s headline spot at Wireless has caused political upheaval in the U.K. with even British Prime Minister Keir Starmer weighing in. Speaking to The Sun newspaper, Starmer said, “It is deeply concerning Kanye West has been booked to …
