Divisive Netflix film The Killer shoots up charts despite being labelled ‘a disappointment’

Back in 2024, Peacock released The Killer, a remake of the film of the same name, which was released back in 1989, with both films being written and directed by John Woo. The film attracted plenty of negative reviews during initial release, but the film has found new life again on Netflix, and despite all the poor critiques, the film has nearly topped the streamer’s charts in the UK, only behind recent shark film, Thrash. The film follows a contract killer, Zee, played by Nathalie Emmanuel, who ends up being hunted by her former employers and police officers after a hit goes wrong. The killings ends up leaving a singer Jenn Clark, played by Diana Silvers, blind, and Zee refuses to kill her as a result of the injury. ANKARA, April 16 (Reuters) – A 14-year-old student who shot dead eight fellow ⁠pupils ⁠at a school in Turkey had ⁠used an image referencing a 2014 U.S. mass killer, Elliot Rodger, on his WhatsApp profile, ​police said on Thursday. In Turkey’s second school shooting in just two days, the middle school student also killed a teacher and wounded ‌20 other people in Wednesday’s attack ‌in the southeastern Kahramanmaras province, shocking a nation where school shootings are very rare. Turkish police said initial findings showed that the ⁠assailant had ⁠used an image referencing the U.S. gunman Rodger, who killed six college students near ​Santa Barbara, California in 2014.  “Initial findings indicate no connection to terrorism, the incident is believed to be an individual attack,” police said.  Rodger had expressed frustration about his lack of success with women in an internet manifesto before his U.S. rampage, and he was later praised by ​a number of perpetrators of school shootings. Fox will continue to probe the Memory of a Killer. The network has renewed its first-year drama starring Patrick Dempsey for a second season in 2026-27. Memory of a Killer joins fellow rookie Best Medicine in earning a spot on next season’s schedule; Fox has also renewed Doc for a third season and has yet to make a decision on its other drama series, Murder in a Small Town. The renewal comes as Memory of a Killer, a co-production between Fox and Warner Bros.
