The Father-Son Story Behind Spike Lee’s Knicks Parade Jacket

The Father-Son Story Behind Spike Lee’s Knicks Parade Jacket

The final garment, which the brand turned out in a matter of days, is a white leather varsity jacket with a metal-studded collar, with Who Decides War’s signature gothic window motif—fittingly modified in blue and orange—on the sleeves. Bravado and D’Amore switched out the frontal Knicks logo to “Spike’s favorite,” which is a version from the late 1980s. They also added a poignant graphic on the back: the Twin Towers, which, for Spike and plenty of other New Yorkers, were long a symbol as synonymous with the Big Apple as the Knicks themselves. The story gets more personal from there. Like the Lees, Brooklyn-born Bravado also shares a father-son Knicks passion with his and D’Amore’s child, eight-year-old Judah. (D’Amore, however, grew up a Celtics fan in Boston.) When Bravado took Judah to his first Knicks game in 2024, “they exited in the second round of the playoffs, and Judah was so upset, because, you know, him being so young and optimistic, of course he wanted them to win,” the designer recalls. “And I remember saying …

The newly crowned NBA champion — whose game-winning tip-in helped propel the Knicks to a Game 4 victory over the San Antonio Spurs and complete the largest comeback in NBA Finals history — has dedicated time to helping cats in New York City shelters find their forever homes by partnering with Royal Canin, VCA Animal Hospitals, and Animal Care Centers of NYC. Anunoby picked five felines — Penne, Sammy, Roxie, Damu and Lil Leo, referred to as “OG’s Starting Five” — that were available for adoption by Knicks fans or anyone ready to welcome a cat into their …

ESPN’s Stephen A Smith nearly booed out of MSG by Knicks fans over resurfaced comments

Get the latest entertainment news, reviews and star-studded interviews with our Independent Culture email Get the latest entertainment news with our free Culture newsletter Get the latest entertainment news with our free Culture newsletter ESPN host Stephen A. Smith received a frosty welcome from New York Knicks fans Friday night as he joined star players Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart for a live taping of their Roomates Show podcast at Madison Square Garden. Introduced as a surprise guest, the 58-year-old sports pundit was met with a chorus of boos from the crowd, likely because of previous comments he made about the championship-winning players. Smith criticized Villanova’s 2016 NCAA championship-winning team, saying, “Villanova doesn’t have a real NBA prospect on the squad.” At the time, the roster featured future NBA players Brunson, Hart and Mikal Bridges — all of whom were on the Knicks’ winning squad this season. Then in 2022, when the Knicks signed Brunson, now 29, the commentator slammed the move. “I’m tired y’all… JALEN BRUNSON ISN’T THE ANSWER,” he argued. “You creating this …

John Turturro Walked Across Brooklyn Bridge for Knicks Parade

John Turturro Walked Across Brooklyn Bridge for Knicks Parade

John Turturro was on the subway from Brooklyn early Thursday morning heading to the Knicks parade like a million other giddy schlubs when he hit a snag: The subway on the Brooklyn side was, for security reasons, skipping all the way to 14th Street in Manhattan, miles from the parade. So Turturro did what his Knicks would do when faced with an obstacle — he found a way. The actor decided to get off the train and walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, joining an impromptu group of determined fans. Along the way, he made a new friend (of course), a woman named Alma whom he helped get into the tightly controlled parade pen when they arrived. “I know how to walk to the Brooklyn Bridge, so I walked,” he said, Anunoby-esque in his demeanor. Of all the Knicks’ devoted celebrity fans this title run not named Spike Lee — Chalamet, Stiller, Hargitay, Morgan — Turturro may hold the claim on most ardent, and certainly the most longtime. He listened to the early-1970’s championships as a teenager …

LAPD killing of family dog amid Knicks victory sparks outrage

LAPD killing of family dog amid Knicks victory sparks outrage

The New York Knicks had just won the NBA championship Saturday night when Los Angeles police were called to an apartment complex in Canoga Park amid reports of a person screaming. Minutes later, an officer opened fire on a pet Saint Bernard doodle that was wearing a Knicks shirt. The death of Jameson has sparked outrage and questions across the city, prompting Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell to promise a full investigation and Mayor Karen Bass to offer a public tribute to the dog. “Every life lost to violence is a tragedy, and we know that the devastating loss of Jameson will be felt by his family forever,” Bass said in a statement amid mounting outcry. A video widely shared on social media shows the dog’s owner sobbing in the hallway of the apartment complex, hugging Jameson as six L.A. police officers stand nearby. “The Knicks just won a championship, we were so happy,” she yells out. Neighbors can be heard angrily admonishing officers for killing the dog. The incident has raised new questions …

A lifetime cheering for the Knicks taught me to embrace pilgrimage

A lifetime cheering for the Knicks taught me to embrace pilgrimage

(RNS) — As the Knicks faithful thronged Manhattan for the team’s championship parade Thursday (June 18), I marveled at the crowd — exultant, thankful, awestruck — and the many ways the Knicks title run feels like something sacred.  I have my own confession to make. I haven’t been to Lourdes. I haven’t circled the Kaaba. I haven’t walked the El Camino. But as of June 8, in the year 2026, I have been to Madison Square Garden for an NBA Finals game. Does a visit to the “mecca of basketball” make me a pilgrim? I’m a New York native, and for as long as I can remember, I’ve been a Knicks fan. I didn’t grow up feeling connected to religion. In the absence of sacred ceremony and identity, I filled the gaps with sports. The closest I came to seeing somebody walk on water was Christmas night in 1984 when, at the age of 10, I was there, at the Garden, witnessing Knicks great Bernard King score 60 points (40 in the first half alone). …

The fan-favorite player, 25, was running along the Manhattan parade route Thursday and high-fiving fans while holding a beer in one hand when two police officers grabbed him and stopped him, appearing to mistake him for a fan who had hopped the barricade, as seen in a video shared first by ESPN’s Kimberley A. Martin. Kolek briefly stopped as the officers appeared to point him to the exit, but they backed off once the crowd began to boo and yelled that he was a member of the NBA championship-winning team. He looked annoyed as he ran away from the police, but later joked about the incident …

Artist Accuses Tik Tok Star Devon Rodriguez of Stealing Knicks Artworks

Artist Accuses Tik Tok Star Devon Rodriguez of Stealing Knicks Artworks

Knicks fans across New York City may be on their way to celebrate the team’s NBA Finals win with a ticker-tape parade this morning, but at least one New Yorker won’t be celebrating just yet. Brooklyn-based artist and designer Gavin Snider has accused Devon Rodriguez—he of the viral subway drawings on TikTok—of copying two recent paintings of Knicks fans and Madison Square Garden. In an Instagram post on Tuesday, Snider said he had been hired in May by the team’s marketing agency to paint a scene outside MSG to commemorate the team’s first NBA Finals appearance in 25 years. The work was shared to the Knicks’s social channels before Game 1 and then again this past weekend after the team won. Then, according to Snider, he was alerted by a friend to Rodriguez’s Instagram, where he was selling a piece that looked “identical” to Snider’s painting; he noted that there was another artwork posted earlier that “matched” another Knicks piece he had previously done. Related Articles Snider argued in the post that the similarities between …

How the Knicks’ Bedazzled Nike NBA Champions T-Shirts Got Made

How the Knicks’ Bedazzled Nike NBA Champions T-Shirts Got Made

Nike’s championship tee design process began with looking at athlete and consumer insights. Interestingly, the brand said this research was “specifically tuned to the 14-17-year-old athlete as the muse.” The company has “spent years studying” this teenage demographic, finding that “they gravitate toward [the] new, modern, different,” and that their “fearless, edgy attitude is what’s driving the design language now.” For this New York Knicks design, Nike also cited the viral, old-school-style warm-up suits worn by the NBA All-Star team in February as a “first proof point” of this bolder, younger graphic approach. Of course, what’s new is often based on what is now old, hence Gen Z and Alpha’s embrace of the aforementioned Ed Hardy, as well its ongoing obsession with the LA luxe-biker-ready brand Chrome Hearts (echoes of which can also be seen in the Knicks tee). There is an aesthetic daringness, or at least flashiness, in the crystals especially—some social-media pundits have discussed the return of rhinestones in men’s streetwear of late.
