Kimi Antonelli wins Canadian GP after George Russell retires from lead

No wonder Russell admitted to being “a bit lost for words” once he had finally made it back to the paddock, on the back of a marshal’s scooter. “I mean, everything just turned off all of a sudden,” he reported of his failure, which came at the end of the straight leading to the final chicane, causing Russell to go straight over the grass, cutting the corner, before pulling his car up on the side of the track. “The engine stopped. No electronics. Nothing. “I’ve got to be honest, though, I’m proud of my weekend. Pole in the sprint, won the sprint. Pole in the main race, I was leading after a good battle with Kimi. There’s not much more I could have done. So I’ll leave satisfied. I’m pretty damn frustrated, but there’s not much I can do.” The day had dawned dark, damp and cold, as forecast. With a light drizzle preceding the race, teams were left with a bit of a conundrum; whether to start on the intermediate tyres and hope the …

The best 80s movie released the year you were born – and where its lead star is now

If you grew up in the 1980s, chances are your earliest movie memories are packed with adventure, horror, sci-fi and big-screen heroes who became cultural icons. It was a decade filled with time-travelling teens, adventure-seeking archaeologists and ghost-busting scientists that remain cult classic figures today.  In this nostalgic year-by-year round-up, we revisit the standout 80s film from the year you were born and check in on the stars who defined them – from Hollywood legends still lighting up the screen to those who have quietly slipped away from the spotlight. Si Woo Kim Hangs on to Byron Nelson Lead and Has Scottie Scheffler and Wyndham Clark Chasing

McKINNEY, Texas (AP) — Si Woo Kim lost all of the five-shot lead he built a day earlier while flirting with sub-60 history at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson. The 30-year-old South Korean still managed to maintain an edge over a couple of major champions, including hometown favorite and defending champion Scottie Scheffler, heading into the final round. Kim shot 3-under 68 on Saturday for a two-shot lead over top-ranked Scheffler and 2023 U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark, who had matching 65s. “It’s fun being in contention,” said Clark, a three-time tour winner seeking his first victory since Pebble Beach in 2024. “Whether you have to shoot 8 under to win or 1 under to win, it’s fun because you still feel the same heat. Tomorrow it’s probably going to be exactly that way where you have to make a ton of birdies.” Sungjae Im, Kim’s countryman, followed a second-round 61 with a 67 and was another two shots back with Stephan Jaeger and Tom Hoge. Jaeger’s 64 was the low round of the day …

The Appliances To Never Plug Into An Extension Lead Due To Fire Risk

The Appliances To Never Plug Into An Extension Lead Due To Fire Risk

I’ll be the first to admit I assumed you could plug most things into an extension lead – but it turns out, I was wrong. Plugging in certain appliances could be a major fire hazard, according to safety experts. In the UK, around 7,000 house fires are caused by faulty electrics, appliances, wiring and overloaded sockets every year. Some common household appliances can take too much power for a standard extension lead to handle safely.  According to The LED Specialist, the riskiest items to plug into extension leads are kettles, electric heaters and toasters.    The reason comes down to wattage. Kettles can draw around 3,000 watts of power, electric heaters can match or even exceed that figure, and toasters typically pull between 800 and 1,500 watts, the experts said.  When multiple high-wattage devices are running through a single extension lead at the same time, the combined load can quickly exceed what the lead can safely handle.  In April, Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service shared on social media that they’d attended a call where an electric heater …

‘The Boroughs’ review: Lively group of seniors lead a sci-fi adventure

‘The Boroughs’ review: Lively group of seniors lead a sci-fi adventure

What do we have here? Some of my very favorite actors — Alfred Molina, Alfre Woodard, Clarke Peters and Geena Davis — starring in an eight-episode, B-grade sci-fi comedy-drama, “The Boroughs,” now streaming on Netflix. Molina plays Sam Cooper, a retired engineer — that will be important — being brought grumbling to the Boroughs, a posh, city-sized retirement community plopped down in the middle of the Southwestern desert. Sam’s late wife, Lily (Jane Kaczmarek, in flashbacks and dreams), had planned the move, but she died suddenly, while they were dancing to Bruce Springsteen’s “Thunder Road,” which will become a kind of trigger and motif going forth. Still, fate — in the form of daughter Claire (Jena Malone) and son-in-law Neil (Rafael Casal) — has pushed him solo to the Boroughs and a house on a cul-de-sac. (Seen from above, the town is laid out in a series of concentric circles, as EPCOT was meant to be when Walt Disney was alive and it stood for Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. That has no relation to …

Odd “butterfly” molecule could lead to new parts of the quantum realm

Odd “butterfly” molecule could lead to new parts of the quantum realm

A laser system used to create butterfly molecules Prof. Herwig Ott A large, cold molecule that resembles a butterfly, with “wings” made from electrons, has been made for the first time, completing the search for a “zoo” of similar molecules. The result could provide a gateway to completely new parts of the quantum realm. Herwig Ott at RPTU University Kaiserslautern-Landau in Germany and his colleagues made the molecule by cooling rubidium atoms to a few millionths of a degree above absolute zero by using lasers and electromagnetic forces. The researchers then used lasers again to make some atoms very large by pushing their outermost electron very far from their nuclei. The quantum properties of atoms that have been cooled and enlarged in this way can be precisely manipulated with lasers, which the team leveraged to move a giant atom’s electron towards a normal-sized rubidium atom, binding them together to create a new type of molecule with extreme properties. Each molecule was about 25 nanometres in size – bigger than the diameter of a DNA strand …
