London Underground drivers announce strikes in March, April and May | UK | News

Drivers on the London Underground have announced a series of strikes across March, April and May in a dispute over proposed changes to working patterns. The walkouts, organised by the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT), will involve seven 24-hour strikes taking place from midday until 11.59am the following day. The action is in opposition to plans by Transport for London (TfL) to introduce a four-day working week for drivers by compressing hours into four longer shifts instead of the current five-day pattern. The planned strike dates are: March 26 to March 27 (12pm Thursday to 11.59am Friday) April 21 to April 22 (12pm Tuesday to 11.59am Wednesday) April 23 to April 24 (12pm Thursday to 11.59am Friday) May 19 to May 20 (12pm Tuesday to 11.59am Wednesday) May 21 to May 22 (12pm Thursday to 11.59am Friday) RMT general secretary Eddie Dempsey said the union had raised concerns about the proposals for months but had been unable to reach an agreement with management. “London Underground is trying to force through major …

The 10 most dangerous London Underground stations named | UK | News

The most dangerous stations on the London Underground have been revealed, with more than 10,000 injuries recorded on the network over the past three years. New data obtained by Personal Injury Solicitors London reveals that Transport for London (TfL) paid out more than £3 million in personal injury claims in a single year. Records show that 3,275 injuries were reported across the Tube network during the 2022/23 tax year, with 3,631 logged in 2023/24 and 3,567 in 2024/25, for a total of 10,473 injuries over three years. The claims received by Transport for London covered a wide range of injuries, with slips, trips and falls the most common category. It accounts for an astonishing 6,847 of the transport network’s injury reports between 2022/23 and 2024/25. Another significant cause is ‘platform train interface’, referring to navigation of the space between the platform and the train – hence the famous Tube warning of ‘mind the gap’. TfL paid out £3,209,421 during the 2024/25 tax year – more than twice the amount paid out during the previous two …

Tube strike hammerblow for Londoners as RMT drivers vote massively in favour of walkout over four-day week

Tube strike hammerblow for Londoners as RMT drivers vote massively in favour of walkout over four-day week

Tube drivers have voted massively in favour of going on strike in a bid to block the introduction of a four-day working week. No strike dates have been announced yet but a walkout of drivers who belong to the RMT union would cause massive disruption to the London Underground, though may not result in a total shutdown. RMT bosses have to give Transport for London two weeks’ notice of any strike action – meaning the earliest a walkout could take place would be mid-March, as no announcement is expected from the union today (Friday, February 27). The RMT opposes the way TfL is proposing to introduce a voluntary four-day week for Tube drivers because it would lengthen the working day and raise concerns about fatigue. But rival Tube drivers’ union Aslef is strongly in favour of the plans, which it regards as the “biggest improvement in working conditions for Underground train drivers in decades” and it would result in the equivalent of more than a month off. A total of 1,082 RMT Tube drivers voted …
