NASA Ends Mars Mission 6 Months After Losing Communication With Spacecraft

Authored by T.J. Muscaro via The Epoch Times, After more than a decade of service, unlocking treasure troves of insights into Mars’s atmosphere, NASA announced on June 3 that its MAVEN mission has come to an end after a still unknown anomaly threw the spacecraft off course and drained its battery. NASA’s MAVEN mission is observing the upper atmosphere of Mars to help understand climate change on the planet. MAVEN entered its science phase on Nov. 16, 2014. NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center Short for “Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution,” NASA’s MAVEN mission launched in November 2013 to study the Red Planet’s atmosphere, specifically how it interacts with solar flares and other types of space weather, as well as readings of the dust storms. The mission was supposed to last one year, but the hardware continued to operate for another decade, providing insights crucial to sending a human crew there with the right protection in the future. It was also able to give ground systems early warning of incoming coronal ejecta from the sun. “MAVEN …

I kept losing Wi-Fi until I found these two Samsung features I’d never tried

I recently switched to the Galaxy S26, and for some reason, it kept losing the Wi-Fi signal in random parts of the house. And since this was only affecting my phone, I knew the issue was with the device rather than my ISP or the router. Every other gadget, including my iPad, stayed connected to the same network without any problems. At first, I tried all the usual tricks, like restarting my phone, reconnecting with the network, installing updates, and even rebooting the router. But nothing worked. My phone kept disconnecting from Wi-Fi at random until I dug a little deeper and changed a couple of key network settings. Speaking at a media roundtable on the sidelines of the IISS Shangri-La Dialogue, Breuer said that China is losing this chance at a time when the world is “contested.” This was “dangerous,” he said, warning that, “in my 42 years as a soldier, I’ve never experienced such dangerous times like we are living in the world as today.” Breuer’s comments came after China’s defense minister Dong Jun skipped the conference for a second straight year, with Beijing sending a lower-level delegation …

The Tories think they’re onto a winning plan — even as they keep losing – POLITICO

The Tories are currently polling at 19 percent, according to YouGov — the same number the party was on before almost a quarter of the Labour Party called on its own prime minister to resign over his short-lived appointment of Peter Mandelson as Britain’s ambassador to the United States. As Scarlett Maguire, pollster and founder of Merlin Strategy, said: “The Conservatives are in a very difficult position tactically. When they criticize Labour — they spent a lot of time working on the Mandelson story — who did it benefit? It benefited Reform.” Badenoch and her top shadow ministers think they can turn that around. The Conservative Party now has a plan to rebuild after a devastating loss in 2024. In the latest episode of the Westminster Insider podcast, POLITICO spoke to a dozen senior people in the party about how they hope to pull themselves back from the brink.  Competent, and maybe boring First up is demonstrated what one senior shadow cabinet member — granted anonymity like others in this article to speak freely on internal …

Tiafoe makes online plea after losing racket in crowd during victory celebrations

PARIS, May 28 : Frances Tiafoe won a French Open marathon against Hubert Hurkacz on Thursday but lost his racket in the ensuing celebrations with fans, later making a plea on social media for its safe return and offering two tickets to his next match. American 19th seed Tiafoe came through a gruelling contest on Court 14 with a 6-7(5) 7-6(5) 6-4 6-7(1) 6-4 victory before running to the boisterous crowd to rejoice, only for a fan to cheekily snatch his racket. Tiafoe did not immediately realise that the racket had been taken, as he stepped away from the crowd and continued his celebrations by taking off his shirt and pointing to his head before flexing his muscles on the court. But reality dawned and he took to social media a little while later to request that the racket be returned to him before he takes on Portugal’s Jaime Faria in the third round. “Unreal atmosphere on Court 14 today,” Tiafoe posted in an Instagram story. “But I must say to the fan who took …

“The World Is Losing Trust”: Foreign Investment In Germany Plunges To Lowest Level Since 2009

“The World Is Losing Trust”: Foreign Investment In Germany Plunges To Lowest Level Since 2009

Authored by Thomas Brooke via Remix News, Foreign companies are continuing to shy away from investing in Germany, with the number of new projects falling last year to its lowest level since 2009, representing an eighth consecutive annual decline. An analysis by the auditing and consulting firm EY, reported by the German Press Agency, found that foreign investors announced 548 new projects in Germany in 2025. That was 10 percent fewer than the year before. Henrik Ahlers, the head of EY in Germany, said the figures were a “warning sign for Germany as a business location. Germany is falling behind, and other European locations are developing significantly better.” He said Germany has talked for years about the need for reform, but has done too little, while other countries have made government services more digital, simplified their tax systems, and made it easier for companies to do business. “In Germany, high taxes, high labor costs, expensive energy, and at the same time, paralyzing bureaucracy are stifling investment,” Ahlers noted. “Germany’s inability to reform has now become known …

What we’re losing as “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” ends

What we’re losing as “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” ends

Long before CBS announced it was pulling the plug on “The Late Show,” its host Stephen Colbert had already laid claim to helming one of late-night’s greatest finales. The very last episode of “The Colbert Report,” which aired in December 2014, closed with the host launching into a rendition of “We’ll Meet Again,” accompanied by Randy Newman playing a grand piano. Shortly after Colbert launched into its opening lines, his longtime “Daily Show” colleague Jon Stewart joined him onstage. Then the camera cut to Willie Nelson singing along beside Bryan Cranston, Doris Kearns Goodwin and Francis Collins, who was then the director of the National Institutes of Health. From there, the stage slowly filled with former guests, more than 100 in all. There were rock stars, politicians, authors and community advocates; here was Toby Keith and conservative tax reform lobbyist Grover Norquist, there was street artist Shepard Fairey and Big Bird. Smaug the dragon from “The Hobbit” made a special taped appearance, because why not? And at the end of it all, Colbert flew off in …

Nearly half of teens are losing critical sleep by staying up too late on their phones

Get the Well Enough newsletter with Harry Bullmore for tips on living a healthier, happier and longer life Get the Well Enough email with Harry Bullmore Get the Well Enough email with Harry Bullmore American teenagers are losing valuable sleep time because they are spending too much late-night time on their phones, new research shows, with consequences for their health and academic performance. Growing teens need at least 8-10 hours each night to help stave off the risk of problems with attention, poor mental health and chronic disease like obesity and diabetes, according to federal guidance. But the majority of 657 adolescents across the country still average about 50 minutes of smartphone use between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. on school nights, using social media apps, streaming and playing games. Almost half of them used their phones between midnight and 4 a.m. Jason Nagata, an associate professor of pediatrics at the University of California at San Francisco, says the findings about teens’ phone use need to be addressed. “That’s a really critical …
