EveryPlate Meal Kit Review (2026): Low Cost, Simplicity, Flavor

EveryPlate Meal Kit Review (2026): Low Cost, Simplicity, Flavor

This yen for experimentation can extend into brand partnerships. The meal I was least excited about in this season’s testing was actually the one I was initially most excited about. EveryPlate has been experimenting with a series of partnerships with boutique food brands, including New York Chinese–inspired dumpling brand Mimi Cheng’s. In this case, the flavors didn’t quite gel, and many of the dumplings arrived broken. In the meantime, EveryPlate has moved on and is now making dishes using flavored chickpeas and beans from craft canning brand Heyday. I’ve had few mishaps with ingredients, but they do happen. A zucchini on my most recent order got some moisture or stray water in its bag. By the time I got to it, at the end of the week, this was death to the zucchini. I had to use my own, which luckily was already in the crisper. I also had to make a special trip for eggs to fill out that turkey-ponzu rice bowl, because I’d neglected to look ahead at the recipe. There aren’t too …

Indonesia to ‘Refocus’ Free Meal Measures on More Remote Areas, Official Says

JAKARTA, June 4 (Reuters) – The Indonesian agency overseeing President Prabowo Subianto’s flagship free meals programme will “refocus” its measures by cutting back on new kitchens and targeting recipients in more remote areas, its new chief said on Thursday.  Nanik Sudaryati Deyang, the new chief of the ‌National Nutrition Agency, was speaking a ‌day after her predecessor was arrested on corruption charges relating to the way the scheme was run.  The details are as follows: • Nanik said the “efficiency” measures came after the Southeast Asian country slashed the allocation for the programme this year to 268 trillion rupiah ($14.87 billion) from the initial 335 trillion rupiah. • “The refocusing measures are aimed at ensuring more efficient use of available resources through stronger governance, improved service quality, optimisation of existing operational kitchens, and more targeted delivery of benefits, particularly in underserved and remote areas,” she said. • Nanik added the measures are not a reduction of the government’s commitment to the free meal programme. • Nanik’s predecessor, Dadan Hindayana, was arrested for alleged corruption offences, …

When’s The Most Important Meal To Eat Fibre?

When’s The Most Important Meal To Eat Fibre?

About 90% of us fail to eat the recommended 30g of fibre a day, which means we could be missing out on the nutrients’ brain, heart, and bowel benefits. That means most of us should focus on getting enough fibre to begin with. But dietitians say that eating it early on in the day can not only help us to achieve that goal, but might confer greater benefits too. “If you start your day [of eating fibre] in the morning, you get a big advantage,” registered dietitian Lisa Young told TODAY. And the Mayo Clinic said we should try to choose a breakfast with at least 5g of fibre. Why should I eat fibre in the morning? Part of it has to do with motivation. If you begin your day with more fibre, you don’t have to make up for any gaps later on in the day when you’re more tired. One study found that people who ate higher-fibre breakfasts went on to eat healthier, more fibre-rich fare throughout the day. Secondly, our gut is …

Always have a starter – and be wary of specials: restaurant critics on 14 ways to order the perfect meal | Life and style

Always have a starter – and be wary of specials: restaurant critics on 14 ways to order the perfect meal | Life and style

For many of us, going to a restaurant is a real treat, so you want to make the most of every mouthful. From starters to small plates, how can you ensure that you have the best possible dining experience? Restaurant critics share the insider secrets to ordering well when eating out. Don’t overplan “I would normally have a glance at the menu,” says London-based Jimi Famurewa, who is a broadcaster, and a columnist and restaurant writer for Broadsheet London. But, says Famurewa, a bit of mystery can enhance the whole experience: “There is something to be said for having an element of surprise, like a bistro or gastro pub where they write the menu every day. If you have a vague idea that it is cuisine you like, or you’ve seen some dishes online that look appealing, then you’ll be all right.” Look for the anomaly ‘Even if the rest of the menu has no surprises, one unusual thing on it may be a sign that the chef cares.’ Photograph: Posed by model; andresr/Getty Images …

‘A slap-up meal for €12’: my search for the perfect old-school Turin tavern | Turin holidays

‘A slap-up meal for €12’: my search for the perfect old-school Turin tavern | Turin holidays

Turin is one of Italy’s most serious food cities, shaped by the culinary legacy of the House of Savoy and, more recently, the slow food movement – a reputation reflected in its historic cafes and restaurants, where meals can feel refined. But that’s only part of the picture. As a local, I’m drawn to something far less formal: the piòla. Piòle were never quite restaurants. They were places for a glass of barbera (poured at the counter from a cylindrical, quarter-litre carafe, the tubo) in rooms worn smooth by decades of use. Regulars played cards, argued about football or politics, and lingered without ceremony. Food, if it appeared, was simple and to the point: anchovies in green sauce, hard-boiled eggs, cold cuts, perhaps a plate of agnolotti (stuffed pasta). Many piòle disappeared from the 1960s onwards, as Turin grew more refined. Some closed; others evolved into osterie or restaurant-like spaces. More recently, though, the piòla has edged back into view – sometimes preserved, often reinterpreted in more stylised forms. But where can you still find Turin …

But it does not always succeed. Indeed, sometimes the exact opposite happens. “Science” itself can sometimes take things out of context, and present half-truths which, repeated over generations, eventually come to seem like total certainties. These ideas do not necessarily take root because they are true, but because they sound good, seem like common sense, and often carry the authority of being linked to an eminent name. When it comes to diet and health, this is all too common. I am not talking here about the fake news or outright hoaxes that proliferate on social media, but phrases and ideas with historical – and even academic – pedigree that have been mistakenly adopted as unquestionable truths. There’s no biological evidence …

HelloFresh Meal Kit Review (2026): Vast Options, Good Execution

HelloFresh Meal Kit Review (2026): Vast Options, Good Execution

Where HelloFresh tends to work best for me is at the three or four meals a week mark. This leaves it as a fun treat on dreary days when doing my own meal planning seems impossible. Spending $80 a week on three meals for two will stop me from blowing $60 on a single (mediocre) desperation DoorDash. And as opposed to DoorDash, when I’m done cooking a Thai-spiced green curry on my stovetop, I actually feel a sense of accomplishment. The problem, in the past, was that meal kits too often repeated menus, or felt a little samey. In 2020, when I used the service to stop myself from being bored to tears during the pandemic, HelloFresh was also a little boring. But these days, HelloFresh is not boring unless you want it to be. Among the nearly 500 meal options are basic burgers, wraps, and salads, along with many culinary wonders of the known world. Forget meal prep—how I get up to 30g of protein after a workout using only Trader Joe’s snacks

Forget meal prep—how I get up to 30g of protein after a workout using only Trader Joe’s snacks

Once I finish a workout, I want a quick and easy snack—something that will satisfy and fuel me, but that doesn’t require me to cook. It’s got to have 20g to 30g of protein to support my recovery and help me stay full until my next meal. After many shopping trips to Trader Joe’s and even more workouts, I’ve settled on a handful of high-protein snacks that are convenient, satiating and enjoyable. I always keep them on hand for post-run refueling and busy afternoons where I need something quick that supports my health and fitness goals, and I often combine snacks to ensure I’m getting the right balance of protein and carbs. Article continues below You may like What that balance looks like depends on the workout. After a shorter or less intense session, I usually try to get in around 15-20g of protein paired with a small source of carbs, like yogurt with a sprinkle of granola or a meat stick and a piece of fruit. After a longer run or more intense workout, …

Dinnerly Meal Kit Review (2026): Hearty Meals on a Budget

Dinnerly Meal Kit Review (2026): Hearty Meals on a Budget

And so Dinnerly saves on cost not by downgrading its proteins—it’s mostly the same stuff that arrives in a Marley Spoon box—but in large part by keeping flavorings simple, just a spice mix or a single main herb and maybe a citrus fruit, with both zest and juice coming into play. This doubles as good cooking. Dinnerly also saves itself some money by relying on you to have your own garlic and butter in stock and not bulking up meals with quite as many carbs. Last year when I tested Dinnerly, the effect was sometimes a little too simple. The meals I tried felt like they took a few too many shortcuts, leading in some cases to the occasional struggle meal. This year, I didn’t have that feeling at all: I found more international and interesting flavors, and more fully developed meals, even with prep that mostly hovered around half an hour. A Little Spice Is Nice Photograph: Matthew Korfhage This shift toward including a more diverse and interesting array of international meals is something …

Eat better with less stress—a chef’s simple guide on how to start meal prepping this week

Eat better with less stress—a chef’s simple guide on how to start meal prepping this week

People often avoid meal prepping because they assume it takes too much time. In reality, it can be one of the most efficient ways to cook—saving both time and mental energy across the week. Private chef and NASM-certified personal trainer Jane Olivia says meal prepping is a simple strategy for busy people who want to eat well without overthinking it. Having food ready in advance can make it easier to avoid last-minute, less healthy choices—helping create more consistent eating habits. “Life is busy, and people often fall into poor food choices simply because nothing is prepared,” she says. “Meal prepping removes that daily decision fatigue, when the food is already there, you’re far more likely to eat well.” Article continues below You may like It can also save time, reduce food waste and make the most of your budget. Rather than cooking from scratch every day, preparing meals in batches means you spend less time in the kitchen overall. “Most people spend time each day figuring out what to eat and cooking it,” Olivia explains. …
