Brewers Inherit ‘Rally Tortoise’ After Manager Pat Murphy Is Told No Pocket Pancakes in TV Interview

Brewers Inherit ‘Rally Tortoise’ After Manager Pat Murphy Is Told No Pocket Pancakes in TV Interview

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — First, the Milwaukee Brewers had “pocket pancakes.” Now, they have pocket turtles. This all probably needs an explanation. During a game last August, Brewers manager Pat Murphy was caught taking a pancake from the pocket of his hoodie for a midgame bite, right in the middle of a dugout interview during a game against the Nationals. It wasn’t necessarily new for Murphy, who’s been known to have everything from waffles to eggs rolls close at hand should he get the munchies. Back to the turtle — er, tortoise. The Brewers were supposed to play the Royals on Friday night on Apple TV, though the game was called 90 minutes before first pitch because of the rain. During a pregame interview with Apple’s reporter, Tricia Whitaker, Murphy said he was informed “under no uncertain circumstances, no pocket pancakes” during their talk, so he pulled out what was supposed to be a pocket turtle. “This is Bobby Jr.,” Murphy said in presenting it to her, having named the creature after his longtime …

I installed Linux on my Pixel and turned it into a pocket workstation

Your phone already does a lot. It takes calls, sends messages, lets you browse the internet, and just about everything else. But modern Android phones are blurring the lines between what a smartphone and a proper computer can do, so if you’re feeling your phone is a little limited for what you want to do, there’s a solution. I installed a full Linux desktop on my Pixel 9a, and not only is it buttery smooth, but it’s also quite capable. I ended up turning my Pixel into a pocket workstation, and the result was a device way more capable than I gave it credit for. Why bother putting Linux on a Pixel? Sometimes, Android just isn’t enough anymore Desktop-class ARM boards have been in the news for a while now. The hype got me thinking; if these boards can run full Linux distros, why not my phone? Modern Pixels already have plenty of RAM, fast storage, and solid GPUs. What they don’t have is a traditional desktop environment or the usual Linux tooling laid out …

The best pocket sprung mattresses for complete body support, tried and tested

The best pocket sprung mattresses for complete body support, tried and tested

Pocket sprung mattresses have an interesting history. When British engineer James Marshall’s wife fell ill in 1899, he built a mattress to help her sleep comfortably, wrapping coiled springs inside muslin. Two of his staff founded luxury bed company Vispring in 1901 and today the firm competes with Dreams, Silentnight, Sealy and more. Pocket sprung mattresses support the body with hundreds, if not thousands, of metal coils individually encased in fabric. Each spring moves independently to relieve pressure, enhance airflow and minimise the transfer of movement from one side of the bed to the other.  When we asked 815 Telegraph readers about their mattress preferences, more of them had pocket sprung models than any other type, including the market-dominant hybrid form. It’s obviously a product close to your heart. Below, you’ll find full reviews for the top pocket sprung mattresses available in the UK, focusing on comfort, spring count and durability. At the bottom of the page, sleep experts answer some frequently asked questions about this type of mattress. If you’re unsure whether a pocket …

New deep-UV pocket scope provides instant molecular imaging

New deep-UV pocket scope provides instant molecular imaging

Minutes matter when a surgeon is deciding how much tissue to remove. Yet for centuries, medical imaging has leaned on stains and dyes that take time and change what you are trying to study. During surgery, traditional staining can take 20 to 30 minutes, and that pause can slow decisions about tumor margins. In routine pathology, the wait often stretches longer because samples go through preparation steps that alter the very molecules under inspection. A new handheld device aims to change that rhythm. In a paper, researchers led by Professor Guoan Zheng at the University of Connecticut describe a deep-ultraviolet ptychographic pocket-scope called DART. The name is short, but the idea is sweeping. Instead of relying on dye binding, the device reads signals that already exist inside living material. “DART provides molecular information instantly, and because it’s based on intrinsic molecular properties rather than dye binding, the results are inherently quantitative and reproducible,” Zheng said. The system uses deep-ultraviolet light to measure how DNA and proteins naturally absorb specific wavelengths. That absorption becomes a direct, …

Former Global Counsel staff say they were left out of pocket after firm’s collapse – POLITICO

A spokesperson for the joint administrators at Interpath confirmed: “As the exit of customers left the company facing insolvency, the U.K. business was unable to continue to trade while the statutory notice periods be run.” Dozens of former U.K. staff are now planning to apply for a protective award, the same two former staff members told POLITICO. When a claim is successful against an insolvent firm, employees are able to receive a maximum of £5,752 each from the Insolvency Service. However, Interpath representatives warned in the Feb. 20 meeting that this process could take up to nine months, the same two former staff members said. ‘Let down’ One of the two former staff members complained that they had suffered financial repercussions while watching Mandelson receive severance from the government. The other complained the situation had been “dealt with very, very badly” and staff had felt “let down.” However, a third person praised Global Counsel for running payroll before the firm’s collapse to ensure staff were paid up until the final day they had worked. Companies …

Ásta Fanney Sigurðardóttir’s ‘Pocket Universe’ Comes to Venice

The Icelandic Pavilion at this year’s Venice Biennale will feature Pocket Universe, a new multidisciplinary project by the artist, poet, composer, and filmmaker Ásta Fanney Sigurðardóttir. Curated by Margrét Áskelsdóttir with Unnar Örn, the exhibition will be on view from May 9 through November 22, 2026, at Docks Cantieri Cucchini in Venice’s San Pietro di Castello district, a former shipyard located between the Biennale’s Giardini and Arsenale sites. The presentation will span a series of indoor and outdoor spaces and combine performance, sound, moving image, sculpture, and installation. Sigurðardóttir’s work often moves between these mediums, bringing together different stories and timelines rather than following a single narrative. Related Articles At the center of the exhibition is a moving-image work that follows a character called Creature Zero as it sets out to find the “original rock,” imagined as the first step in the creation of the earth. Filmed at sites associated with mystical or spiritual traditions, the work draws on myths and stories from different cultures and explores how belief and imagination shape how people move forward …
