Score and Queen’s Club updates

Emma Raducanu overcame an injury scare to reach the semi-finals at Queen’s Club and maintain hopes of an all-British final. Raducanu claimed a 6-3, 7-5 win against Kamilla Rakhimova to reach her second semi-final of the year and will take on Iva Jovic on Saturday afternoon. Raducanu was a set and 3-1 up when she slipped on the court just beyond the baseline, and only got to her feet as the umpire made her way out of the chair. It seemed to affect her movement for the rest of the game and she did not move towards a ball, before going off court for a medical timeout as soon as the game was over and Rakhimova had held. After returning to court with heavy strapping, which she removed after just two games, Raducanu was forced to dig deep and at the second time of asking, she served out the match. “I think right now it’s a mix of adrenaline; it was tough to take that fall, I feel like I was in a pretty good …

Emma Raducanu facing two matches in one day after rain causes chaos to Queen’s schedule

Emma Raducanu and mini resets are as much part of the British tennis landscape as Queen’s and rain delays (Exhibit A: today’s weather in London). But the British No 1 struck a confident figure both during and after her 6-0, 6-3 win over over qualifier Anna Blinkova on Tuesday. Enough to suggest that the green green grass of home may be what her season needed after year of mis-starts, inaction and frustration. Obviously one match does not make a summer and the real tests are to come, starting with her match against Sorana Cîrstea in west London today. Yet, Raducanu sounded upbeat after the win on Tuesday saying (via writing on a TV camera) that she was happy to be “back home”, hinting at the possibility that this will not be another false dawn. “Despite not having played a lot of matches, I was really pleased with how I came out and was playing very free,” the world No 42 said. “I think I was just feeding off of the atmosphere, and it felt free, …

Britain’s Draper pulls out of Queen’s

Britain’s Draper pulls out of Queen’s

LONDON, June 9 : Britain’s Jack Draper withdrew from next week’s Queen’s Club ATP tournament on Tuesday, saying he would delay his comeback from a knee injury for another week as he targets Wimbledon. The British number three has not played a competitive match since retiring from the Barcelona claycourt event in April. Draper reached the semi-final at Queen’s last year and his absence is a blow to the tournament which is already missing several big names including 2025 champion Carlos Alcaraz. “Recovery is going in the right direction, but I’m going to give myself one more week and aim to return at Eastbourne,” the former world number four said in a statement. “It’s very hard to miss one of my favourite events of the year.” Draper’s 2025 season was cut short as he nursed a long-term bone bruise in his arm and he has contested only eight Tour-level matches this year, meaning he has dropped outside the top-100 in the ATP rankings. The 24-year-old recently added two-time Wimbledon champion Andy Murray to his team. …

Germany’s Maria says should have got more respect after Queen’s wildcard snub

LONDON, June 9 : Reigning Queen’s Club champion Tatjana Maria said she should have been given more respect after being forced to qualify for the WTA grasscourt tournament this week. The German, then 37, won the title last year when the women’s tour returned to the venue after a 52-year absence. She was the oldest winner of a WTA 500 tournament. But she had to come through the qualifying tournament this year after not receiving one of the four wildcards, all of which were handed to lower-ranked British players. “It feels almost like a normal tournament because I had to start over again in qualifying,” Maria, who was made an honorary life member at the London club after her title run last year, told BBC Sport. “Already what I did last year was amazing and to be a champion here, I thought I deserved a wildcard and to get a little bit of respect.” Wildcards, awarded at organisers’ discretion to players whose ranking does not merit main-draw entry, are often reserved for home players. “I …

The King of Queens – The Atlantic

The King of Queens – The Atlantic

President Trump delights in playing what he calls “the gay national anthem” whenever he wants to rev up a crowd. He’s obsessed with Elton John, was once friendly with Liza Minnelli, and has a Liberace-esque flair for gilded interiors. One of his favorite sports to watch—mixed martial arts—is basically sweaty, semi-naked dudes. And he is a deep and vocal admirer of the physique of fellow men, often announcing which ones he would cast in a movie: “They’re perfect specimens,” he said last year of the military pilots who had visited him in the Oval Office; “He looks like the Marlboro Man,” he cooed about a former Iowa state senator; “Young, handsome guy. It’s always nice to be young and handsome,” he complimented the president of Paraguay. Some of Trump’s allies note that years before gay marriage was legalized, Trump had gay friends, took pro-gay stances, and allowed gay people to join his private club in Palm Beach starting in the mid-1990s. Ric Grenell became the first openly gay person to hold a Cabinet position when …
