7 of the Best New Nonfiction Releases of June 2026

7 of the Best New Nonfiction Releases of June 2026

June for me means quiet mornings before heading to the bookstore to work at my day job. I love to sit at the cafe next door, watch the morning commuters grab their coffee, and listen to my latest audiobook.  When it comes to my TBR for June, it’s full of must-read spring nonfiction releases. But there are so many—where do you even begin?! You could start with a memoir about relearning how to recapture your sense of self after a traumatic brain injury. Or you could jump into a story of a shipwreck in Micronesia in the early 1800s. You could read Zinzi Clemmons’s new essay collection that delves into the very notion of what it means to be free. Or maybe you could check out Sarah Wilson’s new book about moving forward when the entire world is on fire. If you’re a political memoir fan, you could pick up the new memoir from Deb Haaland, the first Native American to serve in the presidential cabinet. In celebration of true stories, I’ve collected some of …

Reuters releases first documentary in bid to reach new audiences

Screenshot of homepage for new Reuters documentary Reuters has released its first documentary as it aims to bridge the gap between its text-based investigations and its wider video journalism. The 28-minute documentary Death in Darfur, available on the Reuters website and on Youtube, reconstructs paramilitary violence in the Sudan city of al-Fashir using footage forces recorded of themselves killing civilians. Reuters is aiming to create more video-based investigations to help reach audiences who are less interested in text. Earlier this year Reuters hired Suzanne Vanhooymissen as its first documentary investigations editor and Sarah Cahlan as visual investigations editor. Vanhooymissen, who produced and directed the new film, told Press Gazette: “We have within the investigations unit an incredible muscle when it comes to text-based investigations that get a lot of graphic treatment and beautiful animations online. “And then we have within Reuters this massive video operation that has an incredible footprint, and it has access all over the world, and the idea is that we now want to, with investigations, be able to bridge that gap.” …

Apple Releases New Firmware for AirTag 2

Apple Releases New Firmware for AirTag 2

Apple today released new firmware for its second-generation AirTag item trackers. The firmware has a 3.0.49 version number, up from 3.0.45, and it is the second firmware update that Apple has provided for the ‌AirTag‌ 2. There is no word yet on what’s included in the firmware, but ‌AirTag‌ firmware updates most often address bugs and make other under-the-hood improvements. Apple’s prior firmware update tweaked the unwanted tracking sound to make it easier to find an unknown ‌AirTag‌ when using Precision Finding. Apple will provide details on what’s in the 3.0.49 firmware when it updates its firmware support page. For the original ‌AirTag‌, firmware was distributed on a rolling basis over two weeks, but Apple appears to be pushing firmware updates to all ‌AirTag‌ 2 users at the same time. You can check your AirTag firmware by opening the Find My app, going to the Items tab, selecting an ‌AirTag‌ in the list, and tapping on the ‌AirTag‌’s name to see its firmware version. There is no way to force an ‌AirTag‌ update, and firmware …

6 of the Best New Book Releases Out May 26, 2026

Good news! We’re getting gorgeous painted covers again. At least, that is what Tara Anne Dalbow has observed over at Hyperallergic. Let me just say: It’s about time. The people have been yearning for a little line and shadow, a few brushstrokes. The illustrated covers are nice, but I can only pray that whoever decides on romance covers decides to dabble in some painted covers. That would devour. Now for new books. We’ve got a couple of series continuers, one of which is Toshikazu Kawaguchi’s Before I Knew I Loved You. And, speaking of romance, Lexi LaFleur Brown’s Evening the Score is hockey-based. In the world of romantasy, there’s A Kiss of Crimson Ash, which is inspired by an epic Indian love story. For the YA readers, there’s also Being Aro: A Collection of Aromantic Fiction about Love, Connection, and Empowerment by Madeline Dyer, which includes different genres. In more of this week’s notable new releases, Matt Haig returns to the Midnight World, we get a cutesy, queer Bromantasy, there’s a murder within a college’s …

One of the 222 files released on Friday contains 116 pages of documentation relating to a series of reported sightings and investigations in a top secret facility in Sandia, New Mexico, from 1948 to 1950. “This file contains 209 sightings of ‘green orbs’, ‘discs’, and ‘fireballs’ reported near the military base,” the Defense Department said.
