Mojtaba Khamenei has been gravely wounded but continues to lead his country, it has been claimed. The new supreme leader’s leg has been operated on three times, four senior Iranian officials have claimed, adding he is awaiting a prosthetic. The Iranian Supreme Leader is also believed to be having difficulty speaking after suffering severe facial burns to his face and lips, according to a report by The New York Times. Officials said that, in time, he is expected to need plastic surgery. Surrounded by a team of medical staff, he has undergone surgery on one hand and is starting to regain function, the report also claimed. Khamenei has not appeared in public since being appointed to replace his father, Ali Khamenei, who was killed in a joint US-Israeli strike on the first day of Operation Epic Fury, on February 28. Michael Rousseau is on his way out as head of Air Canada, after a crisis response that somehow made a bad situation worse – and then kept digging. The backdrop: a fatal March 22 crash at LaGuardia Airport involving a flight from Montreal to New York City. Two pilots were killed. Rousseau responded with a video offering his “deepest sorrow for everyone affected,” but delivered almost all of it in English, tossing in a token “bonjour” and “merci” like that would smooth things over, according to Bloomberg. It did not. In Quebec—where language politics are less “preference” and more “contact sport”—the backlash was immediate. The National Assembly of Quebec unanimously called for him to go, and Prime Minister Mark Carney slammed the video as a “lack of judgment and lack of compassion.” Notably, one of the deceased pilots was from Quebec, which made the whole thing land even worse. Residents packed the chambers and poured into the parking lot during a Thursday meeting of the Imperial County Board of Supervisors held to solicit feedback about plans to develop a massive data center without first conducting a state environmental review. Speakers were overwhelmingly opposed to the project, citing a range of health and environmental concerns, and criticized the board for allowing the proposal to move forward despite outcry from the community. “This project does not exist in isolation; it impacts real neighborhoods, families and schools and is also setting a precedent for how you treat your constituents,” said Gina Snow, who lives near the proposed site. “If the full scope of this project cannot be clearly presented and independently verified, then residents are essentially being asked to make decisions without information they deserve.” Kristian Salgado urged the board to follow the lead of the Monterey Park City Council, which recently enacted a moratorium on data centers and will put the issue to a public vote after a proposed project elicited backlash from the community. “Across …

But when presented with the dog he so loves, a small miracle occurs.  A man with Alzheimer’s who couldn’t speak suddenly finds his words when his dog walks in. One of the cruelest things about Alzheimer’s disease is the way it takes language away. Researchers explain that what is happening is that the disease changes the brain’s temporal lobe over a period of time, eventually reducing a person’s ability to find words or follow a conversation, until speech disappears completely.
