Why Staying At One Job Too Long Can Leave You Feeling Stuck, Even If It Looks Perfect On Paper | Suzy Rosenstein, MA

Why Staying At One Job Too Long Can Leave You Feeling Stuck, Even If It Looks Perfect On Paper | Suzy Rosenstein, MA

I was happy to have landed my first professional job in 1989. I remember it well: fresh out of grad school and ready to move to the big city of Toronto to start my grown-up life, I packed up my 1980 Honda Prelude with all of my worldly possessions and my ornery orange tabby cat, Hundleby. The job I was going to was a one-year contract at a health unit as a tobacco use prevention health educator, and this was the first of four contract positions I would come to have. I never thought about a contract job being less than ideal until one of my employees at the third contract position started talking about how thankful she was that she finally landed a full-time, permanent job. Interesting. I guess because I was only in my mid-20s, I didn’t fully appreciate why a permanent position was so desirable. Two jobs later, I finally found my full-time (and permanent) position. It was then that I finally understood why permanent jobs were a big deal — I …

Study Reveals How Remote Workers Lose Money By Staying Home

Study Reveals How Remote Workers Lose Money By Staying Home

While working from home offers a lot of flexibility, the decision to stay remote can cost people a significant chunk of their income. Data from ZipRecruiter showed there is a pretty big difference between salaries for remote and in-office workers. Remote work has provided major benefits for employees’ work-life balance and helped them save money on commuting costs. Yet, many companies have issued return-to-office mandates, forcing workers to go back to an antiquated way of working, one they thought had gone by the wayside. To keep employees in these less desirable roles, companies are increasing paychecks. Remote workers lose $22,000 in pay each year for the convenience of working from home. In 2023, the average in-office salary advertised in job postings was $59,085. A year later, American companies were offering higher paychecks to people willing to come to the office, advertising an average of $82,037 for in-person positions, a 33% increase in income. Data from 2024 shows that, on average, fully remote workers were paid $75,327. Mizuno K | Pexels Some employees prefer working on a hybrid …

Anyone staying in a hotel this Easter told ‘leave bowls of water out’ | UK | News

BBC doctor urges anyone staying in hotels at Easter to leave bowls of water around (Image: Getty) With spring in full swing and the Easter bank holiday on the horizon, many Brits will be embarking on getaways. For those planning a hotel stay, BBC Morning Live’s resident doctor, Dr Punam Krisham, has offered advice she urges people to take to minimise the risk of falling ill, as she predicts there will likely be a “spike after the Easter holidays”. Explaining why infections often surge “every time the seasons change”, Dr Punam attributes this largely to fluctuations in temperature and air pressure, which cause “viruses and bacteria spread a lot quicker”. The NHS GP also noted that, naturally, people are “mingling more” and “young children and people are travelling”, reports the Mirror. Dr Punam informed viewers: “We’ve got Easter holidays, we fully expect a bit of a spike after the Easter holidays. And, there is this thing called a stacking effect. “So what will happen is, because there are so many viral things circulating, people feel …

Inside the Palestinian camp in Beirut where residents are staying put, for now

A FRANCE 24 team visited the Palestinian camp of Bourj el-Barajneh in the heart of Beirut’s southern suburbs, which are frequently struck by Israeli airstrikes. Yet here, many people say they have little choice but to stay. Bourj el-Barajneh was established in 1948 after Palestinians were forced to leave their homes in what became known as the Nakba (‘catastrophe’). Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon have evolved from tent settlements into permanent but deprived neighbourhoods. Keywords for this article Source link

U.S. could end Iran military operations ‘right now’ but staying longer

U.S. President Donald Trump speaks during a Women’s History Month event in the East Room of the White House in Washington, D.C., U.S., March 12, 2026. Evan Vucci | Reuters President Donald Trump on Friday said the U.S. could end Iran military operations “right now” and leave Tehran unable to rebuild its military capabilities for a decade. But that’s not “an acceptable situation,” Trump told MS Now’s Stephanie Ruhle in a phone interview. “If we left right now, it would take them at least 10 years to rebuild, but rebuild they will,” Trump said in the roughly 15-minute call. “If we stay longer, they’ll never rebuild,” he said. Trump’s comments came after multiple news outlets reported that the Pentagon is sending up to 2,500 more Marines to the Middle East from San Diego. It’s the second reported deployment of thousands of U.S. troops to the region in the past week. Trump said in the Oval Office on Thursday that he would not put boots on the ground in Iran. Later that same day, Israeli Prime …

Hezbollah is bombing northern Israel again, but residents are staying

KIBBUTZ MANARA, Israel — Orna Weinberg, 60, moves through her house at night in darkness. Turning the lights on might attract the attention of the Hezbollah fighters just across the border. For the past 20 days, Weinberg, a farmer and doula, has been living between the thud of Hezbollah missiles and the crack of Israeli artillery. But her overwhelming feeling, she says, is relief — to be home. Source link

Staying alive: How L.A.’s big 3 theaters plan to do it

Staying alive: How L.A.’s big 3 theaters plan to do it

You can tell a lot about a leader by the way he or she communicates. In conversations with the artistic directors of Pasadena Playhouse, Geffen Playhouse and Center Theatre Group last month, I encountered three talented and hardworking practical idealists confronting the same problem: how to make theater a vital part of the cultural life of Los Angeles in a period of grave economic, political and technological turmoil. The challenge of figuring out a workable business model as production and personnel costs rise while old revenue streams dry up is bad enough. But the quagmire is made worse by the question of what audiences want in an age of abundant at-home entertainment options, tighter budgets and general fatigue from the merciless grind of modern life. No one has to remind Pasadena Playhouse’s Danny Feldman, Geffen Playhouse’s Tarell Alvin McCraney or CTG’s Snehal Desai about the seemingly impossible nature of the situation before them. But the way they address their herculean assignments reveals the priorities and guiding principles of their artistic visions. Feldman, who as producing …

Another 3 Members of Iran’s Women’s Soccer Team Decide Against Staying in Australia as Refugees

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — Another three members of the Iran’s women’s soccer team who accepted refugee visas to stay in Australia have decided to return to their homeland, an Australian government minister said on Sunday. The departure leaves three of an initial seven squad members in Australia. “Overnight, three members of the Iranian Women’s Football Team made the decision to join the rest of the team on their journey back to Iran,” Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke said in a statement. “After telling Australian officials they had made this decision, the players were given repeated chances to talk about their options,” Burke added. Iran’s team arrived in Australia for the Women’s Asian Cup last month, before the war in the Middle East began on Feb. 28. Initially, six players and a support staff member from a squad list of 26 players accepted humanitarian visas to stay in Australia before the rest of the Iranian contingent flew from Sydney to Malaysia on March 9. Another later changed her mind and left Australia. Three left Sydney for …

‘The Traitors’ Staying on BBC Under Three-Year Deal

The BBC has struck a new three-year deal for The Traitors and Celebrity Traitors. The pact will keep the hit show on the BBC until at least 2030. The BBC said it “secured the future of the smash hit multi-award-winning psychological series The Traitors,” saying: “The renewed commitment reflects the BBC’s ongoing investment in original, high‑impact entertainment that captivates and brings together audiences across the U.K. by connecting everyone to unmissable content.” Made by Studio Lambert Scotland, The Traitors and The Celebrity Traitors will continue to bring audiences twists, turns, secrets, epic missions, deception, banishments and, of course, murders aplenty from the now iconic Ardross Castle. “The landmark deal cements iPlayer’s position as the U.K. home of the Traitors franchise, with not only the BBC versions available but also international variations too, including gripping series from the US, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand,” the BBC said. “The Celebrity Traitors debuted on BBC One and iPlayer in October 2025 and has been a runaway success with an average audience of 14.9 million across the run with …
