Robot Escorted Away By Cops After Terrorizing Old Woman

Sign up to see the future, today Can’t-miss innovations from the bleeding edge of science and tech A robot in Macau was escorted away by cops after apparently startling an old lady who was later hospitalized, according to reports from the Macau Post and the South China Morning Post. Police told public broadcaster TDM that the incident occurred near a residential complex in Patane last Thursday. The 70-year-old woman was reportedly looking at her phone while walking down the street around 9:00 PM when she suddenly noticed a humanoid robot, a Unitree G1 model, following right behind her. Her reaction was anything but positive. A video circulating online shows the woman berating the robot as a small gaggle of passersby looked on, with reports saying that she was complaining of how the bot “frightened” her.   “You’re making my heart race!” she yelled, via the Macau Post. “You’ve got plenty to do, so what’s the point of messing around with this? Are you freaking crazy?” Amid her rant, the robot raises both arms, perhaps apologetically, or …

Shia LaBeouf’s New Orleans Bar Crawl: ‘He’s Terrorizing the City’

If there was ever a city to fall off the wagon in, it’s New Orleans. If there was ever a time, it’s Mardi Gras. While the carnival culminates tomorrow, Fat Tuesday, the Transformers actor Shia LaBeouf — who has professed to be sober, and who has blamed his abusive behavior towards ex-girlfriend FKA Twigs on his past alcoholism — has been on an extended-weekend bar crawl in the city’s Uptown neighborhood since Thursday, say employees of various drinking establishments around the city. The mercurial actor ran into a door block early Sunday night at the open-24/7 bar Ms Mae’s when LaBeouf — married to Frankenstein indie queen Mia Goth — showed up at the boisterous dive sans shirt or cash. He wasn’t alone in what Ms Mae’s doorman Robert Skuse described as an “inebriated” state, and was “somewhat belligerent.” LaBeouf came in right around the time the Bacchus super-krewe parade rolled up St. Charles Avenue, amid thousands of revelers, most of them deeply in their go-cups, catching “throws” and watching floats and marching bands go by. In the middle of the mayhem, “he did the ‘Do you know who I am?’ bit,” Skuse said. Many …

Is an AI-Powered Toy Terrorizing Your Child?

Is an AI-Powered Toy Terrorizing Your Child?

Parents, keep your eyes peeled for AI-powered toys. These may look like they might make a novel gift for a child, but a recent controversy surrounding several of the stocking stuffers has highlighted the alarming risks they pose to young kids. In November, a team of researchers at the US PIRG Education Fund published a report after testing three different toys powered by AI models: Miko 3, Curio’s Grok, and FoloToy’s Kumma. All of them gave responses that should worry a parent, such as discussing the glory of dying in battle, broaching sensitive topics like religion, and explaining where to find matches and plastic bags. But it was FoloToy’s Kumma that showed just how dangerous it is to package this tech for children. Not only did it explain where to find matches, the researchers found, it also gave step-by-step instructions on how to light them. “Let me tell you, safety first, little buddy. Matches are for grown-ups to use carefully. Here’s how they do it,” Kumma said, before listing off the steps. “Blow it out …
