We’re going for a third… maybe a fourth

The Lisbon-born footballer, who captained his team to victory in the FA Cup last month and was handed the trophy by the Prince of Wales, gave his dogs quintessentially British names. John, a French bulldog, is named after his City teammate John Stones. His cockapoo is named for King Charles. “We called him Charles because we got him from Wales, and at the time, it was Prince Charles from Wales,” Bernardo tells HELLO! in this exclusive interview after he and his wife, Inês, 27, and their toddler Carlota, two, pose for our photoshoot. “We just thought that it was also a great name for him.” The dogs, who are “a big presence in the house”, have adjusted well to Carlota’s arrival. “She loves them. It’s difficult to imagine the family without them,” he says. Bernardo’s other British takeaway is an admiration for the way we drink. It is not a matter of quantity, he says, but timing. “In Lisbon, you start drinking at 7pm, then you go for dinner and the night ends at 7am, …

Ream, who played for Bolton Wanderers and Fulham in the Premier League and is now at Major League Soccer (MLS) side Charlotte FC, is one of several outfield players in their late 30s and beyond at the 2026 World Cup; including Portugal superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, 41, …

Why soccer fandom in Latin America feels almost sacred

Why soccer fandom in Latin America feels almost sacred

MEXICO CITY (AP) — The chain that hung from Santiago García’s neck carried no crosses or saint medals, yet it felt sacred nonetheless. When García’s grandmother fell sick years ago and he visited her in intensive care, the Argentine soccer fan took off his beloved Boca Juniors necklace and placed it around her neck. “Boca will save you,” García murmured to his grandmother. “And it did. So now it’s hers.” García’s faith in his club mirrors that of millions across Latin America as the region prepares for the 2026 World Cup. From Argentina to Mexico, devotion to the game often spills into everyday life, inspiring rituals and beliefs tied to the sport. “There has been an emotional connection between the public and their soccer teams for a long time,” said Mexican analyst Erick Fernández. “It fosters identity and bonds that make us feel part of a sporting process that represents us.” In Argentina, the home country of Lionel Messi, sports passion is often inherited within families and loyalty to clubs strengthens over time. Mexican designer blends soccer and pre-Hispanic culture ahead of the World Cup

MEXICO CITY (AP) — It’s no coincidence that Hugo Rosas’ jersey designs ahead of the World Cup resemble some of Mexico’s most iconic decorations. His work fuses soccer and Mexican identity to showcase his country’s culture beyond its borders. His latest collection is called “Calados del Alma” or “Cutouts of the Soul.” It draws inspiration from ancient Mexican beliefs and papel picado, the delicate cut-paper ornaments commonly used during local celebrations and holidays. “We try to create concepts that resonate with us and convey traditions that make Mexicans feel proud,” said Rosas, who has run a workshop with his brother Andrés near Mexico City since 2022. “The country’s best is reflected in papel picado, colors and town celebrations.” The first jersey sketched by the brothers portrayed Quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent deity revered by several pre-Hispanic civilizations. That garment remains Andrés’ favorite to date. “Quetzalcoatl represents a balance that sees the world as a system, not as something extractive that human beings can simply benefit from,” said Andrés, who oversees the brand’s marketing. “I connect with …
