UK fish and chip shop giant saved after collapsing into administration | UK | News

A UK fish and chip shop business that has been serving customers throughout the country since 1865 has been saved from administration.

Henry Nuttall Ltd, which provides equipment to fish and chip shops, collapsed into administration earlier this month after 161 years in business. However, in a new update posted on its Facebook page, the business revealed it is now part of the RGM Leeds Group. In a statement shared on the social media page, Henry Nuttall Ltd said: “Henry Nuttall is now part of the RGM Leeds group, alongside Hopkins.

“This is a positive step that strengthens the long-term future of our business while allowing us to continue operating as the independent brand you know and trust. For our customers nothing changes. The same people, products, values, and commitment to service remain firmly in place. Day-to-day operations continue as normal, with the added benefit of long-term investment and support behind the scene.”

The company, which supplied items to the first fish and chip shops opened in 1860, with Malin’s in London and J Lees in Lancashire – both claiming to be the first shop.

On its website, it says that in 1865, with the popularity of fish and chips quickly becoming apparent across the UK and Ireland, Henry Nuttall Ltd was founded.

The business originally began trading from a small backstreet shop in Rochdale. After the war, the company grew rapidly with new chip shops across the area, often using Henry Nuttall’s range.

In the late 1930s, the business’s success led to it moving to Castle Works in Holmes Street in Rochdale, and after this, the company then came under family ownership, with over 30 years of industry experience.

Today, the business resides in Sheffield, with a Bristol office and service centre, and covers fish and chip shops across the UK.
