If there’s one time you want to get your glow on, it’s summer. Something about that warm sun means I suddenly want to look like the strongest light on planet Earth is lighting me from within.
So of course when every sunny season rolls around, I’m forever looking for the perfect highlighter to complement my renewed love for life.
It’s a pursuit I take extremely seriously: I’ve dabbled in creams and powders, and switched from roll-ons to powders, and back again. I’ve even been known to layer (call me out of control!).
Until now, I’ve not quite found The One. Even when I’ve been close, and found an old reliable, the price point has been just that little bit too high to justify going back to it. Or the product has been discontinued altogether (RIP NARS Illuminators).
So when high street brand e.l.f. launched the latest product in its Halo Glow collection, the Silky Powder Highlighter, I obviously had to take it upon myself to give it a go.
At just £9, the highlighter had a ‘don’t mind if I do’ quality to it, and I love that it comes in five versatile shades.
Being the pale girly that I am, I naturally gravitated towards its lightest shade: Soft Pearl Era.
For days where I want a more natural look (so, most days) this shade provides a more subtle shimmer, thanks to being a micro-shimmer formula. But it’s definitely still there – and makes me look like I’m permanently being followed around by flattering lighting.
And, even better, it’s super long-lasting and non-creasing, making it ideal for layering on top of concealer or sporting as a solo accessory in the warmer months.
I’m often sceptical of silkier powder products as I feel like they don’t last as long creams, but this one stayed put all day, despite my daily morning commute sweat-athon, and the amount of times I find myself resting my cheekbone on my hand throughout the day.
For moments where I wanted a bit more pizazz (think: drinks out with the girls and date night) I also tried out the Blush Money shade. As the name suggests, this has a more pinky tone, which gives the flushed effect of having been out in the sun all day (with SPF on, duh!).
If you’re all-in on the rosy cheek vibe, e.l.f suggests layering this powder on top of its Halo Glow Highlight Beauty Wand, and considering the entire bundle will set you back a mere sweet £75, this line is a clear contender for refreshing your make-up bag just in time for spring.
Having already used the powder for a few weeks – and receiving more than my fair share of compliments on my glow – I can already see myself going back for more when I run out.
