Ford recall: 420,000 vehicles over dangerous seat belt issue

Ford recall: 420,000 vehicles over dangerous seat belt issue

Ford is recalling nearly 420,000 vehicles over a critical seat belt defect that could lead to serious injury during a collision.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Tuesday that the recall affects specific Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator models manufactured between 2018 and 2022.

The safety concern centers on seat belts that may unexpectedly lock, preventing them from properly retracting or extending.

According to the NHTSA report, a malfunctioning seat belt could increase the risk of injury in a crash. Furthermore, rapid retraction of the seat belt in certain situations also poses a risk of harm to occupants.

The latest recall supersedes and broadens two prior NHTSA actions. Ford Motor Co. has acknowledged two warranty claims, two field reports, and one reported injury directly linked to this issue.

Affected vehicle owners will receive official notification via mail. They are advised to visit a Ford or Lincoln dealership, where both front seat belt retractors will be inspected and, if necessary, replaced at no cost.

Ford Bronco recall

Ford has also recalled 16,200 Broncos over a roof hazard. Certain Broncos from 2021-2022 model years are affected.

“Hardtop roof panels may have been manufactured improperly, which can allow sections of the outer roof panel to separate and detach from the vehicle,” the recall notice said.

Dealers will inspect and replace the hard top as necessary, free of charge and letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed May 28, 2026.

Ford warned drivers of another recall in April, when 400,000 vehicles were recalled over the risk of windshield wiper arms breaking, causing reduced visibility and increasing the risk of a crash.

The recall covered a total of 422,613 vehicles, including 2021-23 Ford Expeditions and Lincoln Navigators and a range of F series Super Duty trucks, model years 2022-2023.
