Coronation Street’s Dylan makes accusation amid Betsy stroke ordeal

Coronation Street’s Dylan makes accusation amid Betsy stroke ordeal

Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne) has made a major accusation following Betsy Swain’s (Sydney Martin) stroke in Coronation Street.

Earlier this week, Betsy suffered two strokes. This forms part of a wider storyline that will explore the devastating, life-altering reality of a non-fatal strangulation on the character.

Speaking of the story arc, Kate Brooks, producer said: “Coronation Street has always pushed boundaries when it comes to telling challenging, thought-provoking stories, and this story is no exception.

“Shining a light on the dangers of this all too common trend, we wanted to chart Betsy and Dylan’s story as they navigate the catastrophic implications of a moment of naivety, and the impact not only on them, but also on their families and the wider community.

“By consulting extensively with IFAS, the Stroke Association and Safeline, we aimed to handle Betsy’s journey with the care and sensitivity it deserves while sparking a difficult and somewhat contentious conversation that helps raise awareness of the risks involved in partaking in such acts.”

Betsy was rushed to hospital, where doctors confirmed that she’d suffered a stroke as a result of a blood clot that had formed following artery damage in her neck and a temporary loss of circulation. Soon after, she suffered another stroke, and questions began to be asked about how the incident happened.

Embarrassed and vulnerable, Betsy admitted that boyfriend Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne) strangled her during consensual sex – both believing that the pressure applied was minimal.

Her mum Lisa Connor-Swain (Vicky Myers) was then insistent that Dylan should face justice for his actions, and reported him to the police.

In today’s episode, Fiz Dobbs (Jennie McAlpine) spotted two officers arresting Dylan in the precinct, and rushed to tell his dad Sean Tully (Antony Cotton).

Betsy was devastated to learn that he’d been reported, and was unaware that best pal Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) had asked Dylan to stay away from her. Like Lisa, she’s furious that his actions have caused such a devastating incident.

A tearful Dylan then told Sean that he simply couldn’t have caused the stroke, as the strangling apparently happened days before. Sean then suggested that she may have cheated on him with Brody Michaelis (Ryan Mulvey), and that this could have caused the stroke.

Later, Dylan voiced his dad’s claims to Lauren and said that it was the only reasonable explanation for what had happened. She was enraged and threw the pair out of the Rovers, before heading to the hospital.

Brody was sitting patiently by Betsy’s bedside, and when Lauren opened up about the accusations, they were mortified.

Is there any truth to Dylan’s claims, and what will this mean for his relationship with Betsy?
