After wrapping up her Eternal Sunshine tour in London on September 1, Ariana Grande will be stepping away from the public eye. Her spokesperson revealed this to People, explaining: “She looks forward to finishing the tour and ending it on a high note, both healthily and happily, and then taking a much-deserved break from public-facing work and appearances, which has led to endless, ongoing public scrutiny.” The spokesperson thus sought to dispel, in his own words, the speculation of countless online users who, for months—due to the pop star’s noticeable weight loss—have expressed serious concerns about her physical and mental health. These speculations were also refuted by an insider, who told People: “[Grande] performs a very physical show, and there is a lot of athleticism involved. She performs healthily and successfully at a very high level night after night.” In the past, incidentally, Ariana herself had repeatedly asked fans and the media to avoid intrusive comments about her appearance, noting that “healthy can look different.”

It appears the 33-year-old will be taking a fairly long break. And this summer, contrary to what was planned, she will not be among the lead actors in the new London stage production of Stephen Sondheim’s musical, Sunday in the Park with George. Ariana won’t be taking the stage, but she “cannot wait to support the brilliant team bringing this project to life.”

The intense media attention surrounding her may have hastened her decision to step away from the spotlight, but the hiatus may have been in the works for some time. Last November, on the Good Hang With Amy Poehler podcast, while discussing her new tour, Ariana stated: “I don’t want to say anything definitive things—I do know that I’m very excited to do this small tour, but I think it might not happen again for a long, long, long time […] one last hurrah—for now.”
