Sydnie Christmas performed Tomorrow from Annie and Frank Sinatra’s My Way in front of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at David Foster’s charity gala in Canada over the weekend. The 31-year-old, who won Britain’s Got Talent in 2024, shared the Duke of Sussex’s reaction to his performance as he made a surprising comment.
The ITV star revealed Harry immediately broke royal protocol when she left the stage as he leaned in for a hug and offered some kind words to the singer. Both tracks have poignant lyrics about overcoming difficulties and being beaten down, which clearly touched the royal.
Speaking from Canada, Sydnie told The Sun: “When I was on stage, I joked about meeting his dad before adding, ‘Sorry he couldn’t make it. He sent me instead’.” She admitted her comment tickled the prince who couldn’t stop laughing.
“When I got down off stage he just came forward and gave me a big cuddle.”
She revealed the first thing he said to her following her performance.
Sydnie said: “And he went, ‘Sydnie, I felt every word. I really felt that in the back of my throat’.”
Speaking about their embrace, she added, “He just went in for the hug and I was like, ‘Why not?’.”
The BGT winner shared a sweet photo alongside on her Instagram.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex supported their friend David Foster at his event celebrating 40 years of fundraising for the David Foster Foundation on Friday.
Meghan posed closely next to Harry as she wore a dress from Canadian designer Greta Constantine.
Harry, meanwhile, wore a classic black tuxedo with a matching bow tie as he smiled beside his wife in the snapshot she shared on Instagram.
