The long-awaited Great Celebrity Pottery Throw Down is coming to screens later this month as six famous faces will brave the clay and take to the wheel in a series of bold ceramic challenges.
Getting their hands dirty is actor Lucy Beaumont, comedian Fatiha El-Ghorri, podcaster Richard Herring, football legend Paul Merson, star of stage and screen Layton Williams and actress Denise Van Outen.
The new five-part series will be a twist on the original format, with no weekly elimination, allowing the celebrities to immerse themselves in the studio as they learn and develop their skills under the expertise of judges Keith Brymer Jones and Rich Miller.
Guiding the celebrities on their journey as host of the show is Liza Tarbuck, marking her first gig since exiting BBC Radio 2. Earlier this year, the broadcaster announced she’d be stepping down from her Saturday evening show after 14 years as she wanted her weekends back.
Speaking of her role as host, Tarbuck told Radio Times and other press: “I think to be able to take part as somebody who doesn’t know the first thing [about pottery], but when I’m sat at home thinking, ‘Yeah, I could do that.’ And then actually to be there and also enjoy the wonder of it for the first week along with them.
“Essentially just making sure everyone’s all right and rambling the boys occasionally. I potentially had too much fun.”
Tarbuck praised the crew on the show, noting she doesn’t think she’s “seen a crew work like that since The Big Breakfast”.
“It means a lot to me. Things don’t get made because of one person, and I think the arrogance of that makes me say ‘no’ to a great deal of work,” Tarbuck continued. “But when you’re in something that works that well together, and we’re all part of it, it’s not just down to one person.
“It was like a dance, really like a dance, and I was really glad that I was outside of that, looking in until I was just dragged in like the rest of us. It was special.”
The Great Celebrity Pottery Throw Down begins on Sunday 13 September at 7:45pm on Channel 4.
