Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones’ younger daughter is quickly following in their footsteps with another new feather in her cap.
Carys Douglas, 23, who graduated from Brown University last year with a degree in film and international studies, recently shared that she’d moved to New York City to get her own career in the entertainment industry rolling.
While she’s expressed an interest in music and previously acted in the 2024 short film F*ck That Guy, she is now set to make her stage debut with a theatrical production in Brooklyn.
Carys announced over the weekend that she will play the part of “Nina” in the upcoming production of Anton Chekhov’s play The Seagull, staged by the Brooklyn-based Solid Flesh Company.
Per the announcement, Carys is billed as “an actor based in New York. She most recently appeared in the Oscar-qualifying short film F*CK THAT GUY. Carys holds a B.A. in International Relations from Brown University. She loves hiking, singing and songwriting. She’s thrilled to be a part of this project!”
Tickets for The Seagull are already available, with performances on June 20, 26 and 27 at St. Lydia’s for a strictly limited engagement.
The Seagull is one of Chekhov’s most revered works, considered at once both a tragedy and a comedy, centering around a series of love triangles involving a playwright, his mother, her lover, the star of his show, and several other characters. Carys’ character, Nina, is the play within a play’s star and the object of the playwright Konstantin’s affection.
The production is also part of Solid Flesh’s very first slate. They describe themselves on their website with: “Solid Flesh Company is an exciting new theatre company based in New York City, about to embark on our inaugural season!”
“We believe in live performance’s power in reconnecting ourselves with our base being, and aim to create art that shakes us out of the day to day simulation of life. We seek to challenge what is thought of as natural and normal and threaten the boundaries between self and other and clean and dirty.”
Carys isn’t the only one of Michael and Catherine’s two kids with the acting bug (Michael also shares a son, Cameron Douglas, with his ex-wife Diandra Luker). Their son Dylan Douglas made his own acting debut last year in the short film I Will Come to You, following it up a few months after with the short Truths From a Corporate Sellout.
The former marked Dylan’s first turn as a lead, with the 25-year-old saying in a statement at the time: “I was drawn to this role because of its complexity and depth. I am looking forward to bringing this character to life and being a part of a project that pushes boundaries.”
The debut followed his brief foray into political commentary with his own SiriusXM radio show targeting Gen Z voters during the 2024 presidential election.
