Simone Biles has taken to Instagram Stories to share with fans that she has spent the week “in bed resting” after “almost dying”.
Without offering any further information, the Olympics Gold medalist thanked her “close circle who reached out, checked in, visited & or sent flowers”.
“I’m not one to normally share things like this because I value privacy in today’s age,” Simone wrote on her Instagram Stories. “But almost dying wasn’t on my bingo card earlier this week.”
“This was one of, if not the scariest, experience of my life. Especially since Jonathan was in Indy for practices,” she continued, concluding: “I’ve been in bed resting this week, I’ll explain sooner or later, but s/o to my close circle who reached out, checked in, visited & or sent flowers.”
The Story included a picture of Simone wearing three hospital wrist bands; she also shared pictures of the flowers she had received.
HELLO! has contacted reps for Simone for comment.
Simone was by herself as her husband, NFL player Jonathan, is currently in Indianapolis after being traded to the Colts. The pair is preparing to relocate to Indianapolis this summer, although the couple’s long-term base remains in Texas.
“Excited to call Indy home this upcoming football season… beyond proud of you @jowens! Keep defeating the odds, I love you,” Simone recently told Jonathan in a public social media post, including a sweet snapshot of the couple smiling together as Jonathan signed his contract inside the Indianapolis Colts’ facility.
The 29-year-old gymnast has 11 Olympic medals and 30 World Championship medals, making her the most decorated gymnast in history. Simone has not yet confirmed whether she will compete in the Los Angeles Olympics 2028; she made her Olympic debut at the age of 19 in 2016.
“Right now, I’m still focusing on healing physically and mentally because doing the Olympics, it kind of takes a toll on your body,” Simone shared in April 2025, nine months after the 2024 Games.
“I haven’t got that much time because I’ve sacrificed so much to hang out with my family, my friends, my husband and stuff like that.”
However, regardless of whether Simone competes or not, the athlete will be at the Games as it will be held in the US, “which is so exciting.”
She shared: “I’m really enjoying my time off before I decide if I want to go back to the gym and compete. A lot of people think it’s just a one-year commitment, but it truly is the four years leading up to the Olympics.”
