Cybercrime Crew Claims It Hacked Mike Lindell’s MyPillow

The United States military has known for years that enemies could use location data to track troops’ phones—and it’s also long been aware of easy fixes for the problem. The Pentagon adopted almost none of these protections, though, in spite of admitting in a letter exposed this week that US adversaries are actually using the data to target soldiers in war. Meanwhile, US law enforcement warned this week about “anti-tech extremism” as AI backlash grows around the country. After a nearly 90-day internet shutdown, connectivity started to trickle back into Iran this week amid internal political power struggles and ongoing negotiations with the US to end its war with Tehran. Researchers cautioned that it is unclear how extensive the restoration will be and whether connectivity will only return temporarily. As cybercriminals and offensive hackers ramp up their use of AI to exploit vulnerabilities and develop hacking tools, the technology is also radically changing the dynamics of how security researchers hunt for vulnerabilities. And scammers are using real hotel reservation data and other travel details to …

‘The Rip’ Cast and Crew Lands Netflix Peformance Bonus

The 1,200-person team behind The Rip has scored some additional compensation for their work. Ben Affleck and Matt Damon‘s Artists Equity, which is behind the movie, revealed Wednesday that it has paid out a performance bonus to the cast and crew of the movie. The move comes after the production banner negotiated a unique deal with Netflix that would give them a bonus should it meet viewership thresholds. Typically, Netflix pays just an upfront fee rather than offering viewership incentive bonuses. “We built Artists Equity on the belief that filmmakers should share in the value they bring to a project,” said Affleck and Damon in a statement. “The incredible cast and crew of The Rip are no exception. They each played a critical role in making this film the success that it is. We are grateful for their work and glad to see it connecting so deeply with audiences. We’d also like to thank Netflix for their belief in this project and the unique structure around it. This is a great proof point for our new partnership, …

AFCI Film Commissions, Stage 32 Workforce Training Amid Crew Shortages

AFCI Film Commissions, Stage 32 Workforce Training Amid Crew Shortages

As global film and television production spreads across more regions than ever, the Association of Film Commissioners International (AFCI) and Stage 32 are teaming up to launch a new education partnership aimed at solving one of the industry’s key bottlenecks: a shortage of trained below-the-line crew in emerging and competitive markets. The partnership will officially be unveiled during AFCI’s Power of Place Global Film Commission Network Summit, taking place May 15–16 at the Marché du Film in Cannes, which will address global production opportunities and challenges. “With more regions investing in tax incentives to attract production, pressure is mounting on local talent pipelines to support that growth,” the partners said. “Across markets, productions continue to face the same challenge: a shortage of trained crew in key below-the-line roles, including production accounting, production management, assistant directing, line producing, location management, post-production, and coordination.” Highlighted AFCI executive director Claire Brooks: “The ability to support projects on the ground is becoming a key differentiator between markets. Strengthening local crew capacity allows jurisdictions to more fully realize the benefits …
