WASHINGTON, May 18 (Reuters) – Kevin Warsh will be sworn in as U.S. Federal Reserve chief ⁠on ⁠Friday by President Donald Trump, a White House official ⁠said on Monday, putting the 56-year-old lawyer and financier at the helm of the central bank as it grapples ​with intensifying inflation that may make it hard to push through the interest-rate cuts Trump desires. Warsh is succeeding Jerome Powell, whose eight-year run as Fed leader formally expired on ‌Friday, although he plans to remain as a ‌Board of Governors member until he is satisfied that a Trump administration criminal probe of him is fully wound down. Powell was sworn in as temporary chair on ⁠Friday to bridge the ⁠leadership gap until Warsh is formally installed. Instagram will remove end-to-end encryption for direct messages between users from May 8, 2026. When the date comes around, Meta will potentially be able to see the contents of all messages between users on the social media platform. Encrypting messages has been an optional feature in Instagram since 2023, but in March of this year the social media platform quietly updated a help page to say the feature would no longer be available for direct messages between users from May 8. With end-to-end encryption enabled, the contents of messages are protected from the moment they leave the sender’s device to the moment they reach the receiver’s device. In other words, nobody, including Meta, can see what is sent. When May 8 rolls around, that extra layer of security will be removed. On its help page, Instagram says users that are affected by the change will see instructions in the app on how they can download any media or messages that they may want to keep. Temperatures in London and East Anglia could reach 27C on Friday, the Met Office said, marking the warmest day of the year so far. The scorching heat means parts of the UK could be warmer than Sydney, Buenos Aires or Tunis, where highs of between 24C to 22C are forecast. Temperatures could also exceed those in Honolulu, the capital of Hawaii, where highs of 26C are predicted. Parts of the UK could be hotter than Hawaii and Athens today, but forecasters have warned of possible heavy rain and thunder ahead of changeable weather over the bank holiday weekend.  Temperatures could reach 27C (80.6F) in London and East Anglia on Friday, the Met Office said, making it the warmest day of the year so far and hotter than Honolulu, Hawaii’s capital, where highs of 26C are forecast. Friday’s highs will be around 10C (50F) higher than the average for this time of year, which is between 15C (59F) and 17C (62.6F), the Met Office said.
